WOW Action: Saying Yes to Everything Weakens Your Influence As a Leader

Leadership isn’t about how much you can take on, it’s about how effectively you lead and engage others to drive results in navigating a change or business initiative. But too often, leaders like you can fall into the trap of believing that saying yes to everything is a sign of dedication. You might believe that to be impactful, you must always have the answers before taking action. Or that the hardest-working leaders, the ones who continually stretch themselves thin are the most committed.

In the workplace, many times you aren’t afforded the opportunity to say no to lead an assigned goal. The key is in developing an informed decision on how to prioritize key engagement needs and realigning existing demands before adding a ‘yes’ to an already full plate. Completing this recommended WOW action will strengthen your influence, build a more engaged team, and allow you to show up fully in all areas of your life. The most effective leaders aren’t the ones who do it all; they’re the ones who trust themselves to empower others to engage in decisions needed to make aligned actions.

If you found this edition of Championing Change at Work helpful, I encourage you to sign up for my free Championing Change Playbook that guides you through overcoming the most common challenges leaders face in navigating change or transition at work.
