Ep 4 | Self Tape Culture, Lifeless Readers, and Intentional Diversity with Grace Flavien

Producer Grace joins us again! This time to talk about self-tape culture, energy-draining readers in the audition room, and lingering thoughts about the film adaptation of the musical RENT.

DISCLAIMER from the Host (for my RENT loving friends):

As I was relistening to what I said, almost two weeks ago, and hearing my frustration with Mark, I realized that it isn’t with him specifically. I think it’s residual pain, which is important to recognize. There are so many of us who create, live our lives, and it’s profited upon, stolen, or unrecognized. And it’s still happening today. If you look at Mark in a certain way, it’s easy to see him as a villain. But, since we’re so used to looking at people in that light, we forget about the people who may have more positive intentions. Roger does call him out for it. At the end, we have to hold ourselves and others accountable. It’s about vetting for the betterment of the community, acknowledging, and then, allowing others to grow.

Art is about opening a conversation. What I think is not absolute. However, it does come from my perspective and my experiences. So there is a space for validity. But, my thoughts should not lead to judgment and hate.

xx,

Shantelle

Never miss an update!
