Inside Hue and Cry: Greg Kane on Labour of Love, Synth Reinvention & 40 Years of Sound

Join us for an exclusive deep dive with Greg Kane (about:blank) of the legendary duo Hue and Cry (about:blank), as he unpacks the stories behind their iconic hits and bold new musical direction. From the jazz-infused roots of Labour of Love (about:blank) to the synth-driven textures of their latest album Everybody (about:blank), Greg reflects on a remarkable career spanning four decades. In this episode of Chatting Tracks, Woody sits down with Greg to explore the eclectic influences that shaped the band — from a vast inherited record collection to a deep passion for jazz that defined his distinctive piano and saxophone style. Greg reveals the surprising political meaning behind Labour of Love and shares why his brother Pat Kane (about:blank) was initially hesitant to promote the track that would become their signature hit. We also dive into the creative process behind their 16th studio album, born during the global pandemic, where Greg taught himself analogue synthesis from scratch using Behringer gear. The result? A fresh, electronic evolution that still carries the soul of Hue and Cry. Whether you’re a longtime fan or discovering their music anew, this episode offers rare insight into songwriting, reinvention, and navigating the modern music industry. Greg also opens up about the “double life” of touring — from intimate theatre shows to full-scale big-band performances across the UK. #HueAndCry #GregKane #LabourOfLove #EverybodyAlbum #ChattingTracks #MusicPodcast #SynthPop #JazzInfluence #Songwriting #UKMusic #80sMusic #MusicLegends #NewMusic #BehindTheMusic #PodcastInterview Hosted on Acast.
