Nicole & Emma - Ocean microbiome, changing paths and multidisciplinary research
<p>L'épisode d'aujourd'hui est un épisode spécial enregistré en anglais. Today is a special episode recorded in English, it was recorded with Emma Rocke and Nicole Dames from the University of Cap Town. Both are microbiologists working on the Benguela up-welling. We met on the amazing research schooner Tara, part of the mission Microbiomes supported by the Fondation Tara Océan, in Cape Town. In this episode we discussed many topics starting from the importance of the microbes in the ocean, the high level research occurring in South Africa and the benefits of multidisciplinary research. We also discussed the need of having role-models and mentors and the necessity of passing on knowledge both in the scientific field and towards the general public. Élise Kerdoncuff - Déclin récent des espèces, et de l'apprentissage à l'enseignement
<p>Pour ce cinquième épisode je reçois aujourd’hui Elise Kerdoncuff, Doctorante au Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle et au Collège de France, notamment au sein du SMILE (Stochastic Models for the Inference of Life Evolution) et s’intéresse à évaluer le déclin récent des espèces à partir de données génomiques. </p> <p>Dans cet épisode, nous explorerons ses sujets de recherche et notamment de passer de la modélisation théorique à son application. On y parle de sciences participatives, de faire son bilan de compétences, de la valeur de l’enseignement et de la nécessité de bien s’entourer, mais aussi de l’adaptabilité de la recherche face aux crises sanitaires et climatiques. Adrienne Kish - Environnements extrêmes, exobiologie et créativité
