#21 国旗降ろし合戦 パキスタン vs インド
随分前に、この国境では「毎日両国が、お互いの国旗をどっちが先に降ろせるか」を本気で競い合っているという話を聞いた。 その話を聞いて私は「なんと馬鹿げたイベントだろう。さすがインドだ」と興味を持った。そして今回パキスタン行きを決めたとき、インドへの再訪も決め、是非この国旗降ろし合戦を、見に行こうと思っていた。

#20 お気に入りの村 グルミット
グルミットはパキスタンの北、フンザ地方にある。周りを高い山々に囲まれ、標高が二千五百メートルくらい、人口は多くない。町の真ん中にはグラウンドがあり、子供たちがサッカーなどをして遊んでいる。そんな町というよりは村だ。

#19 今日から徒歩ダー
その日どこまで歩くのかは地図を見て大体決めていた。しかし目的の土地まで行っても、宿が営業していないこともあった。十月中旬、この時期のフンザはオフシーズンだ。ちなみに中国とパキスタンの国境も、十一月には雪のため封鎖となる。そのために当初の目的地から、更に次の町まで歩かなくてはいけない日は相当にしんどかった。果たして次の町で宿があるのかも不安材料だ。町から町までの距離は大体十から三十キロ。一時間で歩ける距離は四キロ、二十キロのバックパックを背負っている私はそこらへんが限界だった。
