How the Colorado Rockies Caught Fire All the Way the World Series
For most of the 2007 Major League Baseball season, the Colorado Rockies looked like a promising young team that was running out of time. Led by Matt Holliday, Todd Helton, rookie shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, and a strong defensive core, Colorado remained on the edge of the playoff race until an incredible late-season surge changed everything.
The Rockies won 13 of their final 14 scheduled games, then survived a dramatic one-game tiebreaker against the San Diego Padres. In the bottom of the thirteenth inning, Colorado rallied against legendary closer Trevor Hoffman, with Holliday scoring the winning run on one of the most controversial plays in baseball history.
In this episode of Chill Sports History, we look back at how the Rockies carried that momentum into the postseason, swept the Philadelphia Phillies and Arizona Diamondbacks, and reached the first World Series in franchise history while winning 21 of 22 games. Although their run ended against the Boston Red Sox, Rocktober remains one of the most sudden and unforgettable pennant runs baseball has ever seen.
