   The Last Showing: Ashley Okland

On April 8, 2011, 27-year-old real estate agent Ashley Okland was doing something completely ordinary: preparing to show a model townhouse in West Des Moines, Iowa. But sometime that afternoon, everything changed. Ashley was found inside the model home suffering from two gunshot wounds. There was no obvious explanation for why anyone would want her dead, and for nearly 15 years, her murder remained one of Iowa's haunting cold cases. Her death forever changed the way many real estate professionals thought about their own safety, while her family and friends were left waiting for answers. Then, in March 2026, nearly fifteen years after Ashley's death, investigators made a shocking arrest. Kristin Ramsey, a woman with connections to the development where Ashley was killed, was charged with first-degree murder. New court documents have since revealed previously undisclosed details about what witnesses saw and heard that afternoon—and investigators say Ramsey gave multiple conflicting accounts of her whereabouts. But an arrest isn't the same thing as an answer. This week on Chillworthy, we're taking a closer look at the life and murder of Ashley Okland, the investigation that went cold, the questions that lingered for more than a decade, and the developments that have brought this case back into the spotlight.Because sometimes, the quietest places hold the darkest secrets. The Five Who Were Missing: The Sodder Children

Christmas Eve. A house fire. Five children who vanished without a trace. In the early morning hours of December 25, 1945, the Sodder family home in Fayetteville, West Virginia, erupted in flames. George and Jennie Sodder and four of their children escaped, but five children remained unaccounted for: Maurice, Martha, Louis, Jennie, and Betty. The official conclusion was that the children died in the fire. But there was one enormous problem: their bodies were never found. What followed was a decades-long search for answers. The Sodders questioned the cause of the fire, pointed to a series of strange circumstances surrounding that night, and pursued reports that their children had been seen alive after the fire. There were claims of suspicious activity, a missing ladder, a severed telephone line, vehicles that mysteriously wouldn't start, alleged sightings, and even a photograph that the family believed showed Louis Sodder as an adult. Were the five children victims of a tragic Christmas Eve fire—or were they taken from their home before the flames ever reached them? For decades, the Sodder family refused to stop asking the same question: What really happened to the five children? This week on Chillworthy, we're diving into one of America's most enduring missing-person mysteries: The Sodder Children. The Last View: Bernadette Vander Meer

On August 22, 2006, Bernadette Vander Meer and her husband, David, traveled to Zion National Park to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary. Their destination was Angels Landing—a breathtaking, dangerous trail where David had proposed to Bernadette a decade earlier. But somewhere near the summit, their anniversary trip turned into tragedy. David told investigators that he had turned away for only a moment to move their backpacks and prepare to photograph Bernadette with the sunrise. When he turned back, she was gone. Bernadette’s death was ruled an accident, but questions lingered. Why were the circumstances surrounding her fall so strange? Why had the couple’s life insurance policies been dramatically increased shortly before her death? And what secrets were hiding behind the image of a respected youth pastor and devoted husband?Nearly two decades later, a new investigation would bring Bernadette’s case back into the spotlight and David Vander Meer would finally be charged with her murder. This week on Chillworthy, we’re heading to the top of Angels Landing and taking a closer look at the death of Bernadette Vander Meer, the questions that refused to disappear, and the investigation that came far too late.
