Good Enough—or Never Enough? Virgo, Perfectionism, and Finishing the Work
Have you ever continued revising something because you wanted to make it better—only to begin wondering when it would ever be considered finished?
In Season 2, Episode 3, I introduce “Virgo,” a solo marimba composition from my Constellation series, and explore the relationship between attention to detail, perfectionism, and the challenge of letting our work go.
For a composer, every note, tempo marking, dynamic, and instruction in the score forms part of the communication with the performer. Taking care of these details shows respect for the music. But when we become too afraid of mistakes, we may continue revising forever and never allow the work to begin its own life.
Doing our best and believing that our best is never enough are not the same thing.
Through excerpts from “Virgo,” we will listen to how short phrases, pauses, register, and changing musical density gradually create a sense of order.
Perhaps a mature creative standard involves not only knowing how to revise, but also knowing when the work is ready to leave us.

Do Artists Need Confidence? Leo, Ambition, and Being Seen
What comes to mind when you think of Leo?
Confidence, passion, pride—or perhaps the desire to be at the centre of attention?
But does someone who appears confident truly never doubt themselves?
In the second episode of Season Two, I begin with “Leo,” from my Constellation series, to explore why performers, composers, and contemporary artists need to be seen—and the difference between genuine confidence and the constant need to prove ourselves.
In the past, I was accustomed to standing at the centre of the stage and allowing people to see me through my performances. Today, I increasingly hope that even when I am not present, my music can continue to speak for me.
When we share our work through podcasts, YouTube, and social media, are we simply searching for applause—or do we genuinely have something we want to share with the world?
In this episode, I invite you to listen to “Leo” with me and consider a question: Do we want to be seen because we need to prove ourselves, or because we have finally learned to believe in our own work?

A New Beginning: Two Years of Learning, Creating, and Redefining Myself
Season 2 of Chin-Cheng Lin’s Musical World Tour begins here!
A lot has changed in my life during the two years since Season 1 came to an end.
I became a student again, explored flying and aviation, completed my business school studies, and started to rethink my relationship with music, creativity, work, money, and the future.
In this episode, I want to reflect on one important question: when we enter a new stage of life, do we still need to define “success” in the same way we did before?
I’ll also share some of the changes in my creative life over the past two years, what it meant to see the podcast receive a nomination, and some of the ideas and questions I hope to explore with you throughout Season 2.
This season is not only about my own story. Through my experiences, I hope to explore some of the questions that musicians and artists often face: creativity, career development, reinvention, income, freedom, and how we can build an artistic life that is sustainable in the long term.
