S8 EP205: Overcoming Rejection and Being Part of the Remnant [RO 11:1-10]

In this episode, Kate continues her Romans teaching with a focus on Romans 11 and the theme of being the remnant chosen by grace. She connects Paul’s argument to the lived experience of rejection, abandonment, and the fear of the future, then shows how God’s covenant faithfulness steadies believers in uncertain seasons. She also shares personal reflections on trauma, identity, and moments of feeling dismissed, using them to illustrate how grace softens the heart and keeps believers anchored in Christ rather than in human approval. Key topics In this episode, Kate frames Romans 11 as a response to the question, “Did God reject his people?” She explains the difference between rejection by people and rejection by God, emphasizing that God’s covenant is not a contract. Kate unpacks the Greek idea of foreknowledge, noting that God “foreknew” his people before the foundation of the world. She draws on Paul’s own heritage as an Israelite from the tribe of Benjamin to show that he speaks as part of the story, not as an outsider. The story of Elijah in the cave becomes a major example of feeling alone, exhausted, and like the only one trying to remain faithful. Kate highlights God’s reply to Elijah—that he had reserved 7,000 who had not bowed to Baal—as proof that God always preserves a remnant. She contrasts striving through works, religious effort, and self-righteousness with the remnant life of humility, surrender, and grace. She warns that a hardened heart, spiritual dullness, and self-reliance can become a trap, while grace keeps believers soft and alert. Kate offers three practical responses: expose rejection triggers, repent of spiritual self-will, and stay near the vine. She closes with declarations and journaling prompts meant to help listeners rest in God’s foreknowledge and stop living as spiritual lone wolves. S8 EP204: Our Overflow Armor and Call to be Sent [RO 10:14-21]

In this episode, Kate reflects on two connected themes: spiritual overflow and being fitted with the gospel of peace. She invites listeners to examine what is filling their hearts, how that overflow shows up in speech and action, and how to step into God’s call with courage.Kate also ties the message to the “sent one” identity in Romans 10, encouraging believers to move from receiving the word to sharing it with others in everyday life. Key topics Kate shares a birthday reflection on four years of the Choose to Live Free podcast and the obedience journey behind it. She frames the episode around holy overflow from Luke 6:45, using the image of a water bottle under a running faucet to show how the heart fills and spills out. She teaches that believers are not filled just to hold onto truth, but to pour out encouragement, hope, and the gospel to others. Kate unpacks the “sent” blueprint from Romans 10:14-21: call, believe, hear, preach, and be sent. She emphasizes that fear, inadequacy, and excuses should not keep believers from sharing what God has given them. She explains spiritual landmines as tense, spiritually charged environments such as workplaces, family dynamics, waiting seasons, and relational conflict. Kate highlights the need to have feet “fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace” from Ephesians 6:15. She describes three attributes of fitted boots: stability, readiness, and defense/protection. She calls believers to preserve peace, stay spiritually prepared each morning, and respond to the Holy Spirit quickly. The episode closes with declarations, journal prompts, and a charge to heal others as healed people.
