Wollongong: The Uni Most People Underestimate

Ranked sixteenth in the world among universities under fifty years old, and most school leavers still just think of it as "the one near the beach." That gap between reputation and reality is exactly what this episode digs into. Here's what stood out. Government survey data has historically placed Wollongong around fifth nationally for employer satisfaction, second in New South Wales. Graduates are turning up to workplaces ready to go, and employers are noticing. The median graduate starting salary sits at seventy thousand dollars, right on the national median and actually higher than some much bigger names. Factor in that your cost of living is well below Sydney's, and the numbers start to look very different. The episode also covers where Wollongong genuinely excels (engineering, materials science, ICT), where it might not suit you (if you need big-city buzz or a Group of Eight label), and two comparison unis worth considering alongside it: Newcastle and, less obviously, Curtin. Whether Wollongong's on your list or not, this one's worth a listen.
