Text: Acts 7:54-8:3 | Speaker: Levi Bakerink | Description: This passage in Acts forms a hinge that concludes the first part of Luke's book and begins the second part, which narrates the advance of the church into Judea and Samaria. Through Stephen's death and the subsequent persecution of the church, the Spirit advances Christ's kingdom through his empowered witnesses, all in fulfillment to Christ's original promise in Acts 1:8. Stephen's Sermon: The Temple
Text: Acts 7:44-53 | Speaker: Levi Bakerink | Description: Stephen concludes his sermon by defending himself against the accusation that he rejects the Temple. Much to the contrary, he understands the history and importance of the Temple more than his accusers, because he believes in the prophets who always taught that God is greater than the Temple. And now, as they have rejected Christ, they have rejected God's salvation and are putting their trust in an empty institution. That is still a danger today: we can have all the externals of religion without having saving faith in Christ.
