About Christianity Without Compromise: For Christians Choosing Jesus Over Every Idol
Christianity Without Compromise is a podcast for Christians weary of shallow faith, culture war religion, and forms of Christianity that harm people. Hosted by Jake Doberenz, the show explores what it means to rebuild faith through honest conversations about church hurt, deconstruction, justice, the Bible, discipleship, and spiritual formation.
Each episode examines the ideas, systems, and assumptions that distort Christian faith while moving beyond critique toward hopeful reconstruction. This is a space for Christians who want to ask hard questions without abandoning Jesus, seeking a faith shaped less by ideology and more by community, faithful living, and the way of Christ.

Following Jesus Doesn’t Require Certainty - Kristin Mockler Young
Religious certainty can make Christians more afraid of getting something wrong than open to learning something new. Kristin Mockler Young, pastor, podcast host, and author of The Other Side of Certainty, is on Christianity Without Compromise with host Jake Doberenz to discuss how the need for right answers can undermine following Jesus. Drawing on her experience questioning her beliefs while preparing for ordination, Kristin explains how authority, fear, conformity, and obligation can turn religious certainty into a system of control, conditional belonging, and legalism. She explores how Jesus challenges rigid interpretations of Scripture and why letting beliefs change doesn’t mean abandoning trust in God, the guidance of the Holy Spirit, or the foundations of Christian faith.

God Is Bigger Than Our Categories - Richard Bowles
The desire to define God can easily become the desire to control God—and maybe, to control other people. Rev. Richard Bowles, associate minister at Simplicity Christian Church and managing editor of Impact Magazine, is on Christianity Without Compromise with host Jake Doberenz to discuss why Christians can know God intimately through Christ without pretending to fully define or contain God. Using the lens of queer theology, Richard explains how our language and theology always fall short of divine reality, why attempts to control God can reinforce domination and violence, and how Jesus overturns conventional ideas about power.

Is Worship Music Forming Christian Extremists? - Rick Pidcock
Worship music may feel like a neutral expression of faith, but may also be helping form extreme Christian theologies? Rick Pidcock, author of Weapons of Worship, is on Christianity Without Compromise with host Jake Doberenz to discuss how evangelical worship culture can shape theology, identity, and attitudes toward power. Rick traces the connection between worship music, Christian nationalism, spiritual warfare, individualistic faith, and gender hierarchy while explaining how repeated lyrics and musical experiences can form Christians in ways they may not recognize. If worship music can help form Christian extremists, examining what Christians sing—and what those songs teach them to desire—becomes an important part of spiritual formation.
