A collection of musings on what I learn through cases on the job, lectures in the classroom and the lessons I take away as a growing RN on my way to becoming a CCRN.

a behemoth of an episode today on COPD. i have avoided having to explain this to anyone let alone the public for about 3 odd years but here we are, live and in stereo. in case you don't remember what questions i posed to you;
- is it standard practice in your workplace to routinely give abx to exacerbations of COPD? even if not confirmed to be infective?
- do you believe its ethical to place a patient on NIV knowingly against their wishes, as an emergency measure to get them away from the brink of death so that they can continue to advocate against it when they wake?
i look forward to seeing your responses and opinions!

last episode we talked about heart failure and APO, today we pivot to ARDS, what is it? how is it similar to APO? how is it different? why is it so lethal? and how do we fix it? we are introduced to PC-SIMV and i give a huge thank you to everyone that has listened thus far.

nothing breaks like a heart: heart failure 101
today we learn about heart failure and primarily its affect on the lungs in the form of APO, acute pulmonary oedema. i'd listen carefully, this content will be relevant in the next episode and you may or may not be quizzed. i'm just kidding, no tests here!
