Don't Go Without God | Exodus 33:12–23 | Mike Donohue
What if getting everything we wanted still wasn't enough?

After the Israelites worship the golden calf, God tells Moses that He will lead them into the Promised Land—but His presence will not go with them. Moses responds with a remarkable request: If you're not going with us, don't send us.

In this second message of our three-week series on Moses, Mike Donohue explores Exodus 33:12–23 and what it means to live a life shaped by the presence of God.

Together we'll explore:

• Why Moses valued God's presence more than the promise of a better future
• How what we give our attention to ultimately shapes who we become
• What it means to practice God's presence rather than the presence of our problems
• Why slowing down, prayer, Scripture, worship, and service help us become more aware of God
• Why God can sometimes feel hidden, even when we desperately want to know Him
• How God reveals His character through goodness, truth, beauty, love, and justice
• Why Jesus makes it possible for us to experience God's presence through grace

We often approach personal change by trying harder. We want to overcome our struggles, improve our habits, and become better people through sheer determination.

But what if transformation begins somewhere else?

What we pay attention to changes us.

Moses understood that reaching the Promised Land meant little without the God who had brought them there. More than success, security, or even fulfilled promises, he wanted to know that God was with him.

And that same invitation is extended to us.

God may not always reveal Himself in the ways we expect, but He makes Himself known through His character, His Word, and our experience of following Him.

Ultimately, Jesus is the rock in which we find shelter. Through His sacrifice, we are welcomed into the presence of a holy God—not because we've earned it, but because of His grace.

"If your presence will not go, do not bring us up from here." — Exodus 33:15

The Christian life isn't simply about doing more for God. It's about learning to live every moment with God.
