Cinema Wellness is a podcast that dives into the world of cinema with a fresh perspective, rejecting the binary notion of "good" and "bad" movies. Host Joshua Timpko and a rotating cast of guests explore not just how films impact us, but how we contribute to the cinematic conversation. The show delves into modern film criticism, the emotional connection to storytelling, and the cultural reasons behind polarized opinions. With thought-provoking discussions, Cinema Wellness challenges listeners to reframe how they engage with movies and what they take away from them.
On today’s episode of Cinema Wellness, Josh is joined by George Velez to dive into Martin Scorsese’s delirious 1985 cult classic, After Hours.
They explore how After Hours fits into Scorsese’s larger filmography, why it feels so different from his crime epics, and how the film captures a uniquely ’80s vision of urban alienation. Is it a comedy of errors? A yuppie nightmare? A theological farce about pride and punishment? Maybe all of the above.
Plus: Griffin Dunne as the patron saint of bad decisions, the seductive danger of “just one drink,” and why this might be one of Scorsese’s most underrated—and revealing—films.
If you’ve ever had a night go spectacularly wrong, this episode is for you.

The Holy Mountain (1973) w/ Jay Warrior
In today's episode, Josh and his good pal Jay Warrior are discussing Alejandro Jodorowsky's 1973 film The Holy Mountain!
The Holy Mountain was a 1973 surrealist cult film from Alejandro Jodorowsky, infamous for its shocking imagery, spiritual iconography, and total disregard for conventional storytelling. Revered by some, rejected by others, it’s a film designed less to be “understood” than experienced.
