In 1 Samuel 3:1–21, God breaks a period of divine silence by calling the young boy Samuel in the night. Initially mistaking God's voice for the priest Eli, Samuel is instructed by Eli to respond, "Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening." God reveals a devastating judgment against Eli’s corrupt household. Josh Diehl shares that though afraid, Samuel faithfully delivers the prophecy. Recognizing Samuel's obedience and truthfulness, all Israel realizes that Samuel is established as a true prophet of the Lord.

When God Hears
Samuel 1:1–20 introduces Hannah, a deeply distressed woman who longs for a child but remains barren. During a pilgrimage to Shiloh, Hannah pours out her anguish before the Lord, promising that if He gives her a son, she will dedicate him to God. Though misunderstood by Eli, Hannah remains faithful in prayer. Jessica Alarcon shares that God hears her cry, and she conceives and gives birth to Samuel, whose name reflects her testimony that she asked the Lord for him.

When God Calls
Samuel was born at a critical moment in Israel’s history, as the era of the judges was ending and spiritual drift had taken hold of the nation. Yet God remained faithful, raising Samuel to become a prophet, leader, intercessor, and voice for a generation that needed to hear from God. Pastor Meeks begins a nine-week message series looking beyond the familiar moments of Samuel’s life to the faith, obedience, listening, courage, and dependence on God that shaped his calling.
