Don't be Deceived | Are You For Real? | 1 John 2:18-27 | Falls Church | Nate
Join us this week as Pastor Nate walks us through 1 John 2:18-27
Don’t Be Deceived
1. Don’t be deceived by false leading
- 18 Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. Therefore we know that it is the last hour.
2. Don’t be deceived by people leaving
- 19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us.
3. Don’t be deceived by false teaching
- 21 I write to you, not because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth. 22 Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son. 23 No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also.
Abide in the anointing
- 20 But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all have knowledge.
- 24 Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you too will abide in the Son and in the Father.
Isaiah 61:1 - The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound
Acts 10:38 - 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.
2 Corinthians 1:21-22. 21 And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, 22 and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.
To be anointed by God is to receive the Holy Spirit, by faith in Jesus Christ, and therefore be set apart and supernaturally empowered for life in the kingdom of God.
1. Abide in the truth of God
- 20 But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all have knowledge. 21 I write to you, not because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth.
27 But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him.
2. Abide in the person of God
- 24 Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you too will abide in the Son and in the Father.
3. Abide in the hope of God
- 25 And this is the promise that he made to us—eternal life.
