Ep. 22: with David Chai, Ph.D. Meontology: The Study of Non-being
It is my pleasure to introduce Dr. David Chai from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Dr. Chai is a specialist in Ancient and Medieval Chinese Philosophy, with an emphasis on Daoism. He is the author and editor of several notable books, with of one of my favorites being Zhuangzi and the Becoming of Nothingness. He is well known for advancing the study of meontology, or the philosophy of nothingness. Today we covered what the meontology is, and how Daoism offers a route for studying the nature of nothingness, or no-thingness. We dive into Daoist cosmology, distinguishing between non-being and nothingness, the dao, the one, the thing and the natural world. We transition into the overcoming of nihilism through the dao, as well as his thoughts on Daoist metaphysics. We talk about the benefits of nothingness, the concept of uselessness, and circular time rather than linear. We cover many other topics and some parables alongside their interpretations. Finally, we end on a series of rapid fire questions to get better acquainted with who David is as a person. Ep. 21 with Alfried Längle, M.D., Ph.D.
My guest today is Professor Alfried Längle, a leading voice in existential analysis and a close collaborator of Viktor Frankl (who, if you somehow don’t know, was the author of Mans Search for Meaning which The Library of Congress listed as"One of the ten most influential books in America).“In his work with Frankl during the 1980s, he helped extend logotherapy into what is now known as the Viennese School of Existential Analysis. He served for decades as president of the International Society for Logotherapy and Existential Analysis and has taught and lectured worldwide.Trained as both a physician and psychologist, and grounded in decades of clinical work in psychiatry and psychotherapy, he has been instrumental in evolving logotherapy into a rich, phenomenological approach that centers not only on meaning, but on lived experience, freedom, and the person’s inner consent to life.

Ep. 20 with Nikhil Chaudhary, Ph.D.
Dr. Nikhil Chaudhary is an Evolutionary Anthropologist at the University of Cambridge whose work applies evolutionary theory to explain the diversity of behaviour and cognition acrosshuman societies. His current focus lies in advancing the emerging field of evolutionary psychiatry.
Much of his research has explored the evolution of social behaviour and cooperation in humans, drawing on extensive fieldwork among the BaYaka hunter-gatherers of the northern Congolese rainforest. To illuminate the role that socialrelationships have played in our evolutionary history, he has examined how individual differences in social integration and cooperative networks influence health, mating patterns, and fertility.
