Each week Coach D and Coach B-Fun share their 20+ years of endurance coaching, training and racing experience through less than serious conversations and interviews with other time crunched athletes, coaches, and experts within the endurance community. If you are a cyclist, triathlete, runner, or do-it-all athlete, this is made for you! We can't guarantee political correctness, but we can guarantee you will pull some great nuggets of information to help improve your own performance.    Dr. Melissa Puppa-Lasher, PhD - Elite Lupus Athlete

   Everyone has bad days. But when you wake up every morning not knowing how your body will cooperate, it brings a whole new set of challenges to training and racing at a high level. Our guest, Dr. Melissa Puppa-Lasher, PhD, knows this daily roll of the dice all too well. As an age group aquabike world champion and short course triathlon evangelist, Mel's journey as an endurance athlete living with lupus has been nothing but awe inspiring. There is no quit, and no excuses in this woman. She is by far the most mentally tough person we've had the pleasure of working with. But navigating this disease while improving performance has taken a lot of trial and error, data tracking, intention, communication, and a little tough love at times. Through all the hard work, struggles, and a second heart wrenching diagnosis, we're still hitting new bests 4 years later. And she's not done. Far from it. Mel's story can be a huge source of inspiration for others living with auto immune diseases, but if you don't get motivated listening to this one, we aren't sure you can be helped!

   The Journey of Liz Hall

   Our guest in this episode is none other than our longest continuously coached athlete, Liz Hall. Liz came to us as a pharmacy resident wanting to qualify for Boston over a decade ago. Since then, she has been married, changed jobs multiple times, qualified and ran the Boston Marathon, as well as the Ironman 70.3 and full distance world championships. But as we will discuss, her success has been anything but a straight line. We dive into her past NOT growing up as an athlete, the long but steadfast journey to her first BQ, and how that spun into a successful jump into triathlon. Liz talks about how the heck she stays motivated to train and achieve goals despite a demanding job and family life, as well as why she continue to work with a coach versus go at it alone with all of her experience. We could have easily talked for hours given all she has accomplished, and continue to accomplish (still hitting PRs over a decade into training with purpose). […] And that was one of the harder parts of kind of starting with a new coach was just like, I didn't really know you. You had been coaching Ben, I think, for a year. So he knew you pretty well. But I was like, well, I have to be completely transparent with somebody that I don't know, which is a tough thing to do. But we've gotten there. I think that's one of the most important things. Anyone who hires a coach, you should have a coach-athlete relationship that you are super comfortable with.
