Colorado Films Conversation with actor, stunt performer, and voice artist Kyle Merrick

In this episode of Colorado Films: The Podcast, I sit down with actor, stunt performer, and voice artist Kyle Merrick for a wide-ranging conversation about his unconventional path into entertainment. Kyle spent more than a decade building and running a successful marketing agency before reaching a point where he decided it was time to pursue acting. Since then, he has built an impressive body of work across film, television, commercials, voice acting, improv, and stunt work. We talk about making the leap from entrepreneurship into acting, developing characters from the inside out, working on independent and student films, the unique challenges of 48- and 72-hour film competitions, and what his background in gymnastics, karate, and tactical training brings to stunt work. Kyle also shares what it's like working as a voice actor, why character work is so much more than simply changing your voice, and the lessons he's learned from being on film sets. But one of the biggest conversations of the episode is Colorado's growing film community. Kyle and I talk about the incredible talent in Colorado, the importance of connecting Denver, Boulder, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and other filmmaking communities, and what Colorado can offer productions looking for diverse locations, crews, and talent. We also talk networking, the business side of acting, upcoming projects, and what Kyle hopes his career looks like five years from now. Kyle describes himself as "professionally unprofessional" — and this conversation shows exactly what he means.
