About Colorado Psychedelic Church Podcast

The Colorado Psychedelic Church Podcast exists to strengthen and deepen our community ... and to offer an honest window into who we are. Founded by Teopixqui Dez and guided by a growing circle of clergy, our church is committed to the sacrament as a sacred responsibility and to community as the heart of spiritual life. Through sermons, conversations with clergy, and personal stories from members, we explore theology, ethics, integration, humility, and what it means to build a welcoming spiritual community in Colorado today. You'll hear from people of different ages, backgrounds, and walks of life ... sharing their experiences in their own words. Many guests are identified by first name only to honor privacy and personal boundaries. We believe spiritual growth happens best in environments that are transparent, accountable, and grounded in mutual respect. For our members, this podcast is about connection and continued formation. For those considering joining, it's a clear and thoughtful look at our leadership, values, and rhythms of community life. For the spiritually curious, it's an invitation to listen, discern, and see if this feels like home. This is not about spectacle. It's about belonging. Because spiritual growth doesn't happen in isolation… it happens in community.

Sermon: What Makes Someone Evil? Faith, Morality & Human Nature

What separates someone who does something bad from someone who is genuinely evil? And are people born capable of evil, or do they become that way? Continuing the Colorado Psychedelic Church's October tradition of exploring life's darker and more uncomfortable questions, Teopixqui Dez examines the nature of evil, morality, and human behavior. From everyday acts of selfishness to deliberate cruelty and some of history's greatest atrocities, Dez challenges the congregation to consider where bad behavior ends and evil begins. Drawing on his experiences working in mental health, Dez explores the complicated relationship between harmful intentions, psychological conditions, and personal responsibility. He also considers why we so often describe people who commit terrible acts as monsters, distancing ourselves from the uncomfortable reality that ordinary human beings are capable of extraordinary cruelty. Rather than offering easy answers, Dez invites listeners to examine their own moral compass. Is evil something innate, something learned, or the result of circumstances and choices? Can someone be capable of love and kindness while also committing terrible acts? And what responsibility do we have to continue doing good in a world where others knowingly cause harm? Sometimes strengthening our faith means asking questions that don't have comfortable answers. Timeline & Topics The supplied transcript doesn't include timestamps, so the following sections are presented in order rather than with estimated timecodes. Opening — Continuing October's Uncomfortable Conversations Dez revisits the previous sermon about hopelessness before introducing this week's question: What is evil? Defining Evil: Is Being Bad the Same as Being Evil? Exploring the distinction between harmful behavior, selfishness, deliberate cruelty, and genuine malice. Is There Such a Thing as Universal Evil? How different cultures, religious traditions, and individual moral frameworks shape our understanding of right and wrong. Mental Health, Intent & Moral Responsibility Dez shares an unsettling experience from his work in mental health and asks whether someone who lacks ordinary moral reasoning can be considered evil. Does Anyone Believe They're the Villain? Why people who cause tremendous harm may nevertheless see themselves as justified or even righteous. The Human Face of Evil Examining why we call perpetrators of atrocities monsters—and what we risk overlooking when we forget they're human. Is Evil Born or Learned? Dez challenges the congregation to consider whether evil is innate, acquired through experience, or shaped by individual choices. Continuing the Conversation The congregation is invited to explore these questions further with Bjorn and Thaumaturgist Julian. Community Announcements & Upcoming Events Dez announces Bjorn's clergy training and encourages congregants to participate in the church's upcoming Blunts & Ballots educational gathering. A Note About the Breakout Conversations Following the sermon, members of the congregation were invited into smaller discussion groups to explore their personal understandings of evil, morality, and human nature. These conversations are not included in this podcast recording. If these questions challenge you or spark your curiosity, we encourage you to join us in person. Sermon: Why Keep Fighting? Finding Hope in a Broken World

What's the point of doing good when bad things just keep happening? It's a question many of us have asked, especially when the world feels overwhelming and our own struggles seem never-ending. As the Colorado Psychedelic Church begins its October tradition of exploring some of life's darker and more uncomfortable subjects, Teopixqui Dez confronts hopelessness and the challenge of continuing to do good when circumstances seem determined to knock us down. Drawing from Albert Camus and the Greek myth of Sisyphus—the man condemned to push a boulder uphill for eternity—Dez explores how finding purpose in the struggle itself can change our relationship with suffering, setbacks, and uncertainty. Through reflections on depression, the Buddhist story of Chenrezig, and the strength found in community, Dez challenges us to recognize that perseverance isn't about preventing every hardship or fixing everything that's broken. It's about continuing to love, help, and build something meaningful despite knowing that difficulties will come again. And when the weight becomes too much for one person to carry, community reminds us that we don't have to carry it alone. Timeline & Topics The transcript contains a time marker at 11:07 but does not provide timecodes for the remaining sections. Sermon: Finding Your Pack-The Power of Community

What happens when you finally find a community where you feel safe, accepted and genuinely loved? With Teopixqui Dez unable to attend, Oracle Richard steps in to revisit the Colorado Psychedelic Church's Three Universal Truths: Revere the Self, Embrace the Communal Experience and The Universe Provides. He explores how the universe speaks to each of us differently and why opening ourselves to unfamiliar perspectives can strengthen our understanding of spirituality. The conversation then turns to Embrace the Communal Experience, led by Threadkeeper Sara and Bahn Fasa Maya. Sara shares how the encouragement of her church community helped her overcome anxiety about returning to work after nine years as a stay-at-home parent. Maya reflects on discovering the importance of genuine human connection after years of limited social interaction. What follows is a heartfelt collection of stories from congregants who arrived carrying loneliness, anxiety, depression, religious baggage or uncertainty about belonging. Some came looking for psychedelic experiences and discovered something they never expected: a community of people who genuinely care about one another. As one congregant beautifully puts it, "I have been for years now searching for my tribe. And instead, I found a pack."
