It was produced by the War Department of the United States for the entertainment of the troops overseas. The show did not have a fixed cast or format, allowing it to feature a rotating lineup of the biggest names in entertainment at the time. This flexibility ensured that each episode could provide fresh and engaging content. Notable figures who appeared on the show include Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Judy Garland, the Andrews Sisters, and many others. The performances were often directly requested by military personnel, which added a personal touch to the broadcasts and helped boost morale among the troops."Command Performance" was distributed via shortwave and transcription discs, rather than traditional commercial broadcasting means, ensuring it reached a global audience of U.S. service members during the war. The show was a significant effort on the part of the American entertainment industry to support the war effort, providing troops with a sense of home and a morale boost during difficult times.
