EP 37: I couldn't breathe 30 seconds before Walking on Stage. I Went Anyway.

Thirty seconds before the closing number of her dance graduation concert, with talent scouts and agents in the audience, Jacinda Patty was doubled over on a spiral staircase beside the stage. Not nervous. She physically could not breathe. A nervous cough had taken hold and would not stop, and the clock was running. In about 30 seconds she had to be back on the front line, lights up, full smile, bringing it like nothing was wrong. That moment is where she learned what presence actually is. Not a moment your body cooperates. The choice you make when it absolutely does not. In this solo episode Jacinda makes the case that presence is not a personality you are born with, and not a lucky few who just have it. It is a choice you make in the moment, over and over, and the confidence follows the choice, not the other way around. She breaks it into three frameworks: presence is a decision not a gift, choose what you can actually control, and shift your focus from yourself to the room. Then she leaves you with a 3-second challenge you can use at the doorway of your very next meeting. If she could walk back out on that front line when she could barely breathe, you can choose presence walking into your next room. SCENE MAP: 00:00  The cold open: off stage, doubled over, cannot get air in, 30 seconds to showtime 01:00  The thesis: presence is not a personality, it is a choice you make in the moment 02:00  "There is a specific microsecond where you go from I physically can't to I'm walking out there" 02:30  The setup: 19, dance graduation, talent scouts in the room, career on the line 03:30  The nervous cough, the staircase, the friend who kept her present 05:00  "My body was doing one thing and my mind was running in another direction" 06:00  The decision: the nod, the choice to go on, then steadying herself 07:00  Framework 1: Presence is a decision, not a gift (ready is a myth, confidence is a result) 09:00  Framework 2: Choose what you can control (feet, shoulders, marks, eyes up) 11:30  Framework 3: Shift focus from me to them (panic is self-focus) 13:30  "The most self-conscious person in the room is the least present" 14:00  The 3-second challenge: feet, breathe, one line ("I'm here for them") 15:30  The close: it was never about your body behaving, it is choosing to show up anyway 16:30  The invitation: the August webinar Join the FREE Webinare: > LINK CONNECT: Host: Jacinda Patty Follow Jacinda: @jacindapatty Command Your Presence (CYP): https://www.commandyourpresence.com/

EP36: Grind culture is a presence killer: The wellness myth keeping women exhausted

"Grind culture is a presence killer." That is how Jackie B. Grice opened this conversation, and she would know. Jackie is a wellness strategist and the founder of Soul Sabbatical Retreats, and she also co-owns a transportation management company, an industry that never stops moving. For years she led from fear. If she slowed down, she would miss a bid, lose an opportunity, lose her people. If she stopped, the bottom would fall out. Then COVID stopped the wheels on the bus completely, and Jackie was forced into the one thing she had spent her whole career avoiding: two days of silence. What she heard in that stillness rebuilt how she leads. In this episode Jacinda Patty and Jackie pull apart the wellness industry's "do more" myth (the pressure to tick off 10 things a day just to feel like a good person), and get honest about what burnout actually does to your leadership: the rushed hires, the eroded boundaries, the performing of presence instead of having it. Jackie shares a jaw-dropping story about a fear-based hire that went very wrong, then gives her practical 3-step framework for nervous system renewal, grounded in the truth that you do not need to fix the moment, you just need to regulate it. A warm, funny, and genuinely useful conversation about why the future of powerful leadership is quiet. SCENE MAP (timestamps): 00:00  Why grind culture is a presence killer 01:00  The noisiest myth in wellness: hustle and the "10-lister" trap 03:00  "Social media pretty": chasing an unattainable bar 05:00  The breaking point: COVID, and naming her fear-based leadership 06:30  "The wheels on the bus did not go round and round, they stopped" 08:00  The intervention: two days of silence in the front yard, and hearing "launch deeper" 11:00  How burnout showed up: anxiety, rushed hires, attracting the wrong people 15:00  Performing presence vs having it: people-pleasing and no boundaries 19:00  Coaching a friend in the same trap: "do not quick-hire" 22:00  The story: the fear-based hire who turned out to be the head of a drug ring 28:00  Her 3-step framework for nervous system renewal 31:00  The sacred no, and the 90-second reset (emotions metabolise in about 90 seconds) 33:00  "Call it": Jacinda on naming jealousy to circuit-break it 37:00  The future of leadership: quiet, self-aware, led from the soul 40:00  The self-care that is actually garbage: chasing trends and the youth obsession 45:00  Who a soul sabbatical is NOT for: the woman who will not say yes to herself 50:00  The flagship Soul Sabbatical (Salamander Resort), and where to find Jackie Guest: Jackie B. EP 35: Push-ups before the podium: How William Miller commands a room of adults at 10

William Miller is 10 years old, and he owns every room he walks into. In this episode Jacinda Patty sits down with a speaker who has commanded stages in New York, Las Vegas and Los Angeles, where he is almost always the only kid in the room. As William puts it: "not because I'm special, but because none of us show up." It started when he was eight. Street racing in his community had nearly hit his grandmother, so William walked into his local city council, terrified, and spoke about it for the first time in his life. Six months later they put up a traffic light. A camera happened to be there, the clip went viral, and William ended up across 52 news stations. He has been building his voice ever since. This is a masterclass in embodied authority from an unlikely teacher. William unpacks his daily practice, the push-ups he does right before he walks on stage, and what authenticity really means: "It's your stage. Your crowd. You're not just someone who speaks, you're a speaker." He also reframes the thing adults always get wrong about kids, that they are the future, when the truth is they are the present. A short, sharp reminder that impact has no age limit, and that your voice can change things the moment you decide to use it. SCENE MAP (timestamps): 00:00  Intro: a leader who happens to be 10, and why he doesn't play video games 01:30  "Level up your character in real life": William's mission vs the screen 03:00  Being brave the first time: walking into the city council with no experience 04:00  The result: six months later, a traffic light goes up 04:30  The line: "the only kid in the room, not because I'm special, but because none of us show up" 07:00  William's 3 steps to building a character in real life (believe / your people / God) 08:00  The real backstory: street racing, his grandma, and the decision to act 09:00  Going viral: 52 news stations, World News, Telemundo 10:00  Stagecraft: daily practice, and push-ups right before he walks on 12:30  Authenticity, defined: "it's your stage, your crowd, own it" 18:30  The reframe: "you're not just the future, you're also the present" 21:30  Where to book or follow William: www.itswilliammiller.com Guest: William Miller Follow William on Instagram: @williammillerspeaker Website: www.itswilliammiller.com Host: Jacinda Patty Follow Jacinda: @jacindapatty Command Your Presence (CYP): https://www.commandyourpresence.com/
