Confession: We'd Never Seen The Wicker Man (1973)

Confession: We’ve been faking it… and THE WICKER MAN might be one of the most important horror movies we somehow never watched. In this episode of Confessions of a Film Poser, we finally watch Robin Hardy’s THE WICKER MAN (1973) for the very first time, and we were not prepared for just how strange, funny, musical, unsettling, and completely unlike almost any other horror movie this thing is. Starring Edward Woodward as Police Sergeant Neil Howie and Christopher Lee as Lord Summerisle, THE WICKER MAN follows Howie as he travels to a remote Scottish island to investigate the disappearance of a young girl named Rowan Morrison. But the islanders insist she never existed. And the deeper Howie digs, the stranger things get. Very strange. Extremely musical. Directed by Robin Hardy and written by Anthony Shaffer, THE WICKER MAN became one of the defining films of folk horror, blending mystery, religion, pagan ritual, dark comedy, music, and an increasingly overwhelming sense that Sergeant Howie may have made a very bad decision coming to Summerisle. Along the way, we talk about Edward Woodward’s performance, Christopher Lee in full Lord Summerisle mode, the bizarre residents of the island, the movie’s unforgettable songs, its clash between Christianity and paganism, and why THE WICKER MAN feels so different from almost every other horror movie of its era. From its deceptively calm opening to its increasingly surreal rituals and one of the most famous endings in horror history, we break down our genuine first-time reactions, the moments that surprised us most, what worked, what didn’t, and whether this cult classic still deserves its legendary reputation more than 50 years later. Is THE WICKER MAN one of the greatest folk horror movies ever made... or is Summerisle just a very strange place to spend a weekend? If you're into first-time movie reactions, classic horror, 70s horror movies, folk horror, cult films, Christopher Lee, movie discussions, and honest, unfiltered conversations about cinema, welcome to the Poser Movie Club. 🔥 What is the greatest folk horror movie of all time? The Wicker Man? Midsommar? The Witch? Blood on Satan’s Claw? Something else? The Changeling (1980): First Time Watch

Confession: We’ve been faking it… and THE CHANGELING might be one of the most respected haunted-house movies we somehow never watched. In this episode of Confessions of a Film Poser, we finally watch Peter Medak’s THE CHANGELING (1980) for the very first time, and we were not prepared for how creepy, tragic, atmospheric, and genuinely unsettling this movie gets. Starring George C. Scott as composer John Russell, THE CHANGELING follows a grieving man who moves into a massive old mansion following the devastating loss of his wife and daughter. Unfortunately, he isn’t alone. And whatever is inside that house really wants his attention. Directed by Peter Medak and inspired by supposedly true events experienced by writer Russell Hunter, THE CHANGELING became one of the defining supernatural horror films of the early 1980s, famous for its slow-burn atmosphere, eerie sound design, séance sequence, mysterious wheelchair, and one incredibly ominous bouncing ball. Along the way, we talk about George C. Scott’s performance, the mystery surrounding the house, the séance scene, the disturbing story of Joseph Carmichael, that staircase, the infamous bouncing ball, and why THE CHANGELING has influenced haunted-house movies for decades. From its devastating opening to its escalating supernatural mystery and unforgettable final act, we break down our genuine first-time reactions, the moments that creeped us out the most, what worked, what didn’t, and whether this horror classic still deserves its reputation more than 45 years later. Is THE CHANGELING one of the greatest haunted-house movies ever made... or has its reputation become scarier than the movie itself? If you're into first-time movie reactions, classic horror, 80s horror movies, supernatural horror, haunted houses, ghost stories, cult films, movie discussions, and honest, unfiltered conversations about cinema, welcome to the Poser Movie Club. 👻 What is the greatest haunted-house movie of all time? The Howling (1981): First Time Watch

Confession: We’ve been faking it… and THE HOWLING might be one of the most important werewolf movies we somehow never watched. In this episode of Confessions of a Film Poser, we finally watch Joe Dante’s THE HOWLING (1981) for the very first time, and we were not prepared for how strange, dark, funny, and genuinely nasty this movie gets. Starring Dee Wallace as television reporter Karen White, THE HOWLING follows Karen as she retreats to a secluded treatment center after a traumatic encounter with a serial killer. But something about the people living there feels very, very wrong. And before long, things get hairy. Very hairy. Directed by Joe Dante and based on the novel by Gary Brandner, THE HOWLING arrived during an incredible era for werewolf movies and became famous for its grotesque practical effects, disturbing transformations, dark humor, and unforgettable creature design. Along the way, we talk about Rob Bottin’s legendary effects work, Dee Wallace’s performance, the bizarre residents of “The Colony,” the movie’s twisted sense of humor, and how THE HOWLING stacks up against some of the biggest werewolf films ever made. From its slow-burn opening to its wild transformations and unforgettable ending, we break down our genuine first-time reactions, the moments that surprised us most, what worked, what didn’t, and whether this horror classic still deserves its reputation more than 40 years later. Is THE HOWLING one of the greatest werewolf movies ever made... or has it been overshadowed by the other monsters of 1981? If you're into first-time movie reactions, classic horror, 80s horror movies, practical effects, cult films, werewolf movies, movie discussions, and honest, unfiltered conversations about cinema, welcome to the Poser Movie Club. 🐺 What is the greatest werewolf movie of all time?
