Fill Your Vessel: Waiting, Oil, and the Heart (Matthew 25–28). S3. E5.

Season 3, Episode 5. Fill Your Vessel: Waiting, Oil, and the Heart (Matthew 25–28) Date: October 17, 2025 Duration: 49:05 minutes Hosts: Brigette Heller, Andrew Blackwood, Tanja Bentley Ward Episode Summary: As we wrap up Matthew, the conversation moves from parables to passion: the ten virgins and the talents, the call to active, intimate discipleship, and the Savior’s anguish in Gethsemane. The hosts unpack the difference between regret and repentance (Judas vs. Peter), the danger of spiritual depletion, and the hope of the Resurrection—“as they went, Jesus met them.” The episode closes with comfort from the hymn His Eye Is on the Sparrow and an invitation to seek Christ daily. Key Points Covered: Ten Virgins (Matthew 25): “Vessels vs. lamps”—we are the vessel; the oil symbolizes the Holy Spirit. “Tarry” explored: vigilant responsibility vs. quiet waiting; waiting is active, not passive. Boundaries are biblical: you can’t borrow someone else’s oil; guard your spiritual reserves. Talents (Matthew 25): Active waiting = investing what God gives; perception of the Master shapes our action. “Enter into the joy of thy Lord” emphasizes intimacy and ownership—your Lord. Serve from overflow, not depletion; multiply gifts to bless others. Gethsemane (Matthew 26): The Savior’s humanity and anguish—“Could you not watch with me one hour?” Following Jesus can involve pain; intimacy is cultivated in honest surrender. Peter vs. Judas (Matthew 26–27): Peter’s denial leads to restoration (“Do you love me?”); Judas’s remorse lacks true turning to Christ. Difference between regret and repentance: returning the silver isn’t reconciliation—coming to Jesus is. Mob Mentality & Fear (Matthew 27): Fear of change fuels crowds; “His blood be on us” paradoxically names the very blessing we all need. Resurrection Hope (Matthew 28): “As they went, Jesus met them” - seek Him and He meets you on the way. Daily practice: wake up with prayer and the Word; experiment upon the Word and notice the difference. Hymn Reflection: His Eye Is on the Sparrow - assurance that Jesus is our portion and He watches over us. Keep your vessel filled - meet with God daily. Waiting on God is active: prepare, invest, cultivate intimacy. Healthy boundaries protect your lamp; serve others from overflow. True repentance turns to Jesus Himself; He restores. If you seek Him, He will meet you. Surrender, Calling, and Kingdom Fruit (Matthew 19–24). S3. E4.

Season 3, Episode 4. Surrender, Calling, and Kingdom Fruit (Matthew 19–24). Date: October 17, 2025 Duration: 43:16 minutes Hosts: Brigette Heller, Andrew Blackwood, Tanja Bentley Ward Covering Matthew 19–24, the hosts wrestle with Jesus’ teaching on marriage, singleness, and the heart behind divorce; the rich young ruler’s call to surrender; the vineyard wages and God’s generosity; servant-leadership (not status) in the Kingdom; the triumphal entry and “Hosanna - save us”; the fruitless fig tree; the great feast; the greatest commandment; warnings to religious hypocrites; and the call to watchfulness in the last days. Key Points Covered: Marriage, Divorce, Singleness (Matt. 19:1–12) Marriage and singleness are callings to oneness with God; both require surrender. “Hardness of heart” explains Mosaic concessions on divorce; idolatry of marriage is a danger. Practical lens: put God first - without that, marriage (or singleness) falters. The Rich Young Ruler (19:16–22) The humble prayer: “What lack I yet?” Surrender exposes the one thing we cling to. Blessing the Children (19:13–15) Kingdom posture = childlike dependence and openness. Vineyard Wages (20:1–16) God’s generosity offends entitlement; focus on the Giver, not comparisons. Doing vs. being: quality (with God) over quantity (for God). Servant Leadership & Zebedee’s Sons (20:20–28) Greatness = serving and suffering, not titles and thrones; roles are the Father’s to assign. “Hosanna” & the Triumphal Entry (21:1–11) “Hosanna” means “Save us.” Praise and plea meet in true worship. Fig Tree & Fruit (21:18–22) Looking the part isn’t fruit; faith + obedience bears Kingdom fruit. Two Sons / Tenants / Great Feast (21:28–32; 21:33–46; 22:1–14) Saying “yes” without doing isn’t obedience; refusal shifts the Kingdom invitation to responsive hearts. Many are called, few are chosen - response matters. Greatest Commandment (22:34–40) Love God with all your heart, soul, mind; love neighbor as yourself—Kingdom center of gravity. Woes & Hypocrisy (ch. 23) Individuality in God leads to oneness; performative religion divides and withers. Watching for His Coming (24:36–44) Live awake and ready; trust Christ amid uncertainty. Takeaways: Keep asking “What do I lack?” - and obey the answer. Don’t idolize roles (marriage, leadership); seek oneness with God first. Celebrate God’s generosity; drop comparisons. True leadership serves. True faith bears fruit. Praise Jesus with a sincere “Hosanna—save us.” Live watchful and ready. Open Hearts, Real Loss, and True Discipleship (Matthew 13–18). S3. E3.

Season 3, Episode 3. Open Hearts, Real Loss, and True Discipleship (Matthew 13–18)Date: October 17, 2025 Duration: 36:45 minutes Hosts: Brigette Heller, Andrew Blackwood, Tanja Bentley Ward Episode Summary: In Matthew 13–18 the hosts trace a through-line from heart posture to holy living: why Jesus teaches in parables, how the heart receives (or resists) the Word, walking with God through grief, and learning to let Him separate wheat from weeds. They unpack what truly defiles, faith that perseveres (the Canaanite mother), taking up the cross, and becoming childlike to be found by the Good Shepherd. Key Points Covered: Parables & the Heart (Matt. 13) Jesus waits; seekers come. Parables reveal to open, teachable hearts and mercifully veil truth from closed ones. Parable of the Sower: paths (no understanding), stony ground (offended under pressure), thorns (worldly desires choke), good soil (hears, understands, bears fruit). Trust God’s timing with the weeds and wheat - He can separate without us uprooting everything. Loss, Reputation, and Moving Forward (Matt. 14) John the Baptist’s death: Jesus withdraws to grieve - then returns to ministry. Herod’s oath: a warning about saving face and choices driven by public image. What Truly Defiles (Matt. 15) People can honor with lips while hearts are far. It’s not what goes in but what comes out of the heart that defiles. Canaanite woman: an apparently harsh exchange becomes a test that reveals great faith and persevering hope. Signs, Surrender, and the Cross (Matt. 16) “Sign of Jonah” foreshadows the Resurrection. Jesus rebukes Peter (“Get behind me, Satan”): beware well-meaning voices that oppose God’s way. Call to deny self, take up the cross, and follow—lose life for Christ to find true life. Kingdom Greatness & Childlikeness (Matt. 18) The greatest become like children - humble, trusting, undivided. Jesus comes to save the lost; choose what (or whom) you’ll “lose yourself” to: the world or Christ. Takeaways: Keep a soft, teachable heart - understanding grows with willingness. Grieve with God; then keep walking. Let God do the separating; you do the surrendering. Distinguish testing (refines faith) from temptation (aims to destroy). True discipleship = deny self, take up the cross, follow with childlike trust.
