Connecting Scripture and Life podcast explores the way God speaks in different times and places with the same wisdom that lead to a happy life. Scripture teaches us how to live. Through conversations with people who love, teach, and live it we will explore our own lives in the pages of the sacred.
Connecting Scripture and Life is a ministry of the Catholic Bible Institute, Office of Religious Education, Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
This story of necessity had to lead us back to Jerusalem. The disciples on the road lost belief in the one they thought would redeem Israel. He was dead so they packed up and headed home. Jesus met them on the road and taught them again what he had already shown them. He turned their hearts around and they returned to the city. This shows that it is not enough to feel the presence of Jesus in your heart but to walk in his way. The word of God and the breaking of the bread begin our journey into the source and summit of the life we are called to live. It all begins in our burning hearts and spreads throughout the world.

Episode 126: Workers in the Vineyard - Matthew 20:1-16
This parable has always been a challenge to our practical and perhaps commercially oriented minds. On first hearing we say 'excuse me!' But as all parables are, this story goes way deep to challenge those spaces that hold back our generosity. Not only with money but with our time and talents and sacrifices for the sake of others. We talk about what it means to be last and what it is Jesus is calling us to remember, and how gracious God is not only to those who are called later in the day but to the ones who question the fairness of being made to be last when they were first. This is a beautiful story of God seeking us and calling us to his service and how to shift our focus from reward to the joy of giving.

Episode 125: Under the Grapevine and Fig Tree - Micah 4-5
Chapter four of Micah is a dark warning and admonition to those who abuse their power and leave the lesser in dire circumstances. We struggle with the meaning of a prophecy that seems to leave us with hopelessness but in the midst of the chastisement is hope. The time of suffering has an end and the promise of coming to the place of God's love and goodness is always held out to us. There is work to be done and it will provide each of us with what we need, to sit beneath our grapevine and fig tree where we will rest and be at peace.
