How to Navigate Inflation with Practical Budgeting & Money-Saving Adjustments

It’s no secret that the necessities of life are becoming more and more expensive. Groceries, gas, and even utility prices are climbing and show no signs of slowing down. Budgeting is crucial, but even that can feel limiting when paychecks rarely cover living costs. Fortunately, there are some tricks to managing your budget and reducing your money stress. In this episode of Connecting the Golden Dots, host Teri P. Cox shares the practical money-saving strategies she's relied on for a lifetime, starting with a topic many people are experiencing: grocery store inflation. Instead of submitting to extreme prices, Teri suggests committing to a savings plan and explains how loyalty cards, digital coupons, and price awareness across supermarket chains save you money. She also offers advice for food swaps that can benefit your wallet and health, such as choosing chicken instead of beef or frozen over fresh salmon. For online shopping, she suggests a similar approach, stacking coupon codes and cash-back rebates from services like Rakuten and Capital One Shopping. She even has tips for budgeting your bills and encourages listeners to speak with representatives about what they can do in real time to lower their bills. And since budgeting isn’t just about the money you spend, she shares easy adjustments to make at home, such as washing laundry in cooler water and sealing windows before winter, using telehealth, and more. Tune into episode 31 of Connecting the Golden Dots if you’re interested in learning how to navigate budgeting during this economic roller coaster. Autumn: A Time for Reflection and Transformation

Reflection is much easier said than done. Most people spend so much time worrying about the next day. What the weather will be, what new adventures it will bring, and everything else in between. But true reflection comes naturally when the seasons change. In this episode of Connecting the Golden Dots, host Teri P. Cox tackles the mindset shift that autumn brings. As summer fades and fall begins, dynamic change is organic. It dramatically affects our moods, decisions, and actions. But Teri notes it goes much deeper. Fall is an encouraging time of personal growth and reflection. As the episode continues, she talks about the importance of creating a positive mindset for the season ahead. Longer days and limited sunlight cause seasonal affective disorder, which is why a mindset shift is so crucial. Instead of a checklist of goals, she guides listeners with simple questions to help them dig deeper. She asks, What can you do to make your mindset more positive so that you can have a successful season? What can you let go of and what can you do for yourself? These questions are important because self-reflection also requires self-compassion. Knowing that it’s not easy, Teri shares how she makes time even during busy days. Her approach to self-care, goal-setting, and finding balance serves as the ultimate guide for a successful and happy transition to fall. Tune in to episode 30 of Connecting the Golden Dots to understand autumn’s seasonal shift and learn how to create a positive mindset moving into fall. You’ll also gain tools for boosting self-compassion and gratitude, helping you thrive in the new season. What Is Happiness, Really? Redefining It for Every Stage of Life

We spend so much of our lives chasing happiness, but how often do we stop to ask what it actually is? Is it a feeling, a destination, or something we build day by day? What if the milestones we think will finally make us happy (the promotion, the relationship, the house) are not the answer at all? In this episode of Connecting the Golden Dots, host Teri P. Cox reflects on happiness as she processes a recent birthday and the questions it stirred up about priorities and what comes next. She traces how her own definition of happiness has shifted across the decades, from the simple joy of ice cream as a child to a deeper, more grounded contentment in her seventies. Along the way, she unpacks the common misconceptions that keep so many people from feeling fulfilled, including the belief that happiness arrives only after reaching a certain milestone or acquiring the right possessions. Teri shares research showing that happiness is not the absence of discomfort but often grows out of working through it. She talks about the role gratitude and mindset play in daily well-being, describing her own morning and evening practices of giving thanks. She also touches on the surprising science behind happiness, including the split between genetics, life circumstances, and personal choice, and what that means for how much control we really have over our own contentment. These ideas matter because so many of us are waiting for permission to feel happy, waiting for the right job, the right partner, or the right circumstances to line up before we can feel happy. Teri's perspective offers a more honest and more hopeful alternative: happiness is something you can choose and cultivate right now, regardless of what stage of life you are in or what challenges you are facing. Her reflections invite listeners to reconsider their own definitions of happiness and to notice the small, everyday moments that already bring them joy. Tune in to episode 29 of Connecting the Golden Dots and explore how understanding happiness, its myths, its science, and its shifting nature over a lifetime can help you build a life of greater contentment, gratitude, and purpose. Episode Takeaways: Why our definition of happiness naturally changes and evolves across the decades of our life (1:10) How connection, in family, work, and community, plays a central role in true happiness (2:40) Why living according to your values is central to feeling genuinely fulfilled (4:00) How taking responsibility for your own happiness starts with shifting your mindset (5:00) The surprising role gratitude plays in building a happier daily life and mindset (6:20) Why some discomfort and struggle are actually part of the path to feeling happy (10:40) The personality traits and habits that tend to show up in genuinely happy people (13:20) Why chasing a single milestone will never be the final answer to lasting happiness (17:40) How genetics, life circumstances, and personal choice each shape our happiness, and why that matters (24:00) Let's Connect: Website (https://teripcoxmba.com/) LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/teri-p-cox-mba-58b79424/) Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/teripcoxmba/) Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/teri.p.cox/) Hosted on Acast.
