Have you ever felt like there had to be more to following Jesus than going to church? Listen as the teaching team, at Connection Point Church of God in Sidney, OH, motivates and encourages us all towards becoming Everyday Disciples as we dive into the Word of God
What does it actually mean to treasure something? In Matthew 6:19 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZC4e_JcXEA&list=PLYcFrYQsFSH0&index=1&t=379s)-24, we are challenged to look honestly at what we are holding onto and why. Jesus draws a sharp line between earthly treasures, which are temporary and vulnerable to decay, theft, and loss, and heavenly treasures, which are eternal and dependable. The message is not that wealth or saving or owning things is wrong. It is that when those things move from our hands into our hearts, we have crossed into dangerous territory. The question we are invited to sit with is not how much we have, but what we treasure. Where we place our treasure is where our heart ends up, and that is true whether we have very little or a great deal. This is a message for anyone with a heart, and that means all of us.

Live for Christ
What if the spiritual practices we have built our faith around are actually working against us? That is the question at the heart of this message drawn from Matthew 6. As we walk through Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, we are confronted with a truth that cuts straight to the core of our religious lives: it is not enough to do the right things. The why behind what we do matters just as much as the what. Jesus addresses three foundational practices of faith -- generosity, prayer, and fasting -- and in each case, he draws a sharp line between performing righteousness for an audience and expressing genuine love for God and others. The word he uses for those who get it wrong is telling. The original meaning is not simply someone who says one thing and does another, but an actor, a performer, a pretender. The question we are left with is deeply personal: are we performing for the crowd, or are we truly connecting with God? The reward Jesus promises to those who practice their faith in secret is not a trophy or public recognition -- it is God himself. More of his presence, more of his closeness, more of the relationship we were created for. That reframes everything.

Live Differently
What does it actually mean to follow Jesus beyond simply checking spiritual boxes? In this message, we dig into one of the most overlooked yet foundational passages in the entire Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5:17-20, where Jesus makes a statement about himself that reframes everything we think we know about righteousness. Jesus is not here to tear down the law and the prophets, the Torah and the writings of the Old Testament prophets that guided God's people for fifteen centuries. He is here to complete them, to bring them into full focus. And in doing so, he issues a challenge that would have stopped everyone in their tracks: our righteousness must surpass that of the Pharisees, the very people considered the gold standard of religious devotion. Rather than setting an impossible bar for rule-keeping, Jesus is pointing us toward something far deeper. The Pharisees had the law memorized and followed it meticulously on the outside, yet many had missed the heart of it. This message calls us to ask ourselves a harder question than whether we have been reading our Bible or attending church. It asks us to examine the condition of our hearts. Are we seeking to look good, or are we genuinely being transformed from the inside out? The difference between those two things is everything.
