   Interview with Carole Bayer Sager

In this episode, we’re joined by the legendary songwriter Carole Bayer Sager, whose catalogue includes some of the most enduring songs in popular music, and who co-wrote two tracks with The Corrs for Talk on Corners: ‘I Never Loved You Anyway’ and ‘Don’t Say You Love Me’. Carole takes us through her remarkable journey as a songwriter, from her first hit, ‘A Groovy Kind of Love’, in 1966, to writing classics such as ‘Midnight Blue’, ‘Don’t Cry Out Loud’, ‘When I Need You’, ‘Nobody Does It Better’ and the Grammy-winning ‘That’s What Friends Are For’. She reflects on the different approaches of her collaborators, including Neil Sedaka, Peter Allen and Burt Bacharach, offering a fascinating insight into the creative process behind some of music’s best-loved songs. She explains how David Foster brought her together with the band, gives details of meeting the band at her home studio, and shares her memories of working with them on the songs that would end up featuring on Talk on Corners. We explore how ‘I Never Loved You Anyway’ came together, why Carole loved Andrea’s voice, and the importance of writing with an artist who can sing a song as it develops. Carole also discusses writing ‘Look Through Your Eyes’ and ‘On My Father’s Wings’ for the animated film Quest for Camelot, both featuring Andrea’s vocals, and reflects on a career built around collaboration, instinct, and finding the right words for a melody. At 00:18:16, you can hear a clip 'Don't Say You Love Me' as heard on BBC2 at Riverside Studios with The BBC Orchestra on 29/11/2001. At 00:32:25, you can hear a clip of 'I Never Loved You Anyway' as performed acoustically for VH1 in late 1997. Special thanks for this episode go to Pete Ganbarg and Laurie Gonlag. Interview with Nigel Dick

In this episode, we’re joined by Nigel Dick, the acclaimed music video director behind some of the most recognisable videos of the MTV era, including work with Guns N’ Roses, Tears for Fears, Oasis, Britney Spears, Cher, and of course The Corrs. Nigel shares the journey that took him from training as an architect and busking on the Paris Metro to working at Stiff Records before eventually becoming one of the most successful music video directors of his generation. We hear how a chance recommendation from Andy Murray introduced him to Forgiven, Not Forgotten, an album he instantly fell in love with, eventually leading to a phone call that would see him direct four videos for The Corrs. This episode's interview is focused on his work for the band on the music videos Only When I Sleep and What Can I Do. Nigel takes us behind the scenes of filming Only When I Sleep at Los Angeles’ historic Alexandria Hotel, revealing how the shoot came together on a modest budget and why he felt the videos from the first album hadn’t yet captured who The Corrs truly were. Nigel also discusses the story behind directing What Can I Do, from writing a treatment overnight in a New York hotel room to flying across the world to New Zealand for a one-day shoot squeezed into the band’s hectic touring schedule. Hear Nigel reflect on the realities of filmmaking in the pre-digital era, shooting on film, the art of music video production, and why The Corrs remain one of the most enjoyable bands he ever worked with! Interview with Tricia Walker

In this episode, we’re joined by Tricia Walker, who co-wrote the song covered by The Corrs, 'Looking in the Eyes of Love', a track closely connected to the writing and production era of Talk on Corners. Tricia takes us back to her roots in Mississippi, growing up along Highway 61 in the heart of the Delta. Classically trained and raised on soul, blues, and gospel, she shares how an early love of music and poetry led her to pursue songwriting seriously. In 1980, she packed up and moved to Nashville, entering a music industry that operated long before email, digital demos, or social media. We explore what Nashville was like in the 1980s and 1990s, how the co writing culture worked, and how songs were pitched, recorded, and circulated in a pre-digital world. At the centre of our conversation is the song 'Looking in the Eyes of Love', originally intended for Talk on Corners but ultimately not included on the final track list. The song would, thankfully for us, find its official release as a bonus track on In Blue in the year 2000. Tricia shares with us how the song came to be written, what it was like to see it covered by a number of artists in the industry, and we discuss how it eventually became part of The Corrs story. At 00:21:46, you can hear a clip of the original 1989 female vocal demo for 'Looking in the Eyes of Love' as sung by Tricia Walker. At 00:37:39, you can hear a clip of the Corrs version of the song as released on the special edition of 'In Blue'. A photo of the Grammy Award certificate Tricia has hung proudly on her wall can be seen at the following link HERE (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FkaSYYuuPMpY1T4b0eVy2OMPikOMiQeD/view?usp=sharing) Tricia's website can be found at: www.bigfrontporch.com (https://bigfrontporch.com/) and her work with Delta Deep Roots can be seen and heard via www.deltadeeproots.com (https://www.deltadeeproots.com/about/) This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (https://tinyurl.com/ycyz6twe).
