Dr. Strange Law
Join Charles and Derk as they discuss areas of law that are strange, shocking, and counter intuitive. Thinking about cutting down your neighbors tree that's growing over your fence? Dropping your kids off at school? Thinking about suing the owner of the shop who sold you a faulty appliance? Listen to this episode to learn a little about these areas of law and then go talk to a lawyer in your area. Seriously, we're just two dudes shouting on the internet. Brains, Trains, and Amygdalas
Listen in as Derk picks Charles’ brain about the 10% myth, a man who’s been working on the railroad and ethical dilemmas about uncontrollable rage. This rage wasn’t even caused by bad puns. TRIGGER WARNING: This episode includes mention of traumatic head injuries, mass shooting, and how sexual assault is handled by the U.S. justice system. Running Amuck
Join us as Charles runs, and Derk walks, us through the history of our species' relationship with running. From the pursuit of prey to the crossing of a finish line, humans and running have covered a lot of ground over the years. Charles also challenges Derk to see if he can tell the difference between some of the most intense races people sign up for and his tall tales. Larger (and Smaller) than Life
Join Derk as he causes Charles physical pain making him think about astronomically large and small things. This episode is all about how much humans suck at understanding things at the extreme ends of various scales. Be it large numbers, things smaller than a microscope can reveal, or the sheer size of wealth some possess, we often misunderstand them because we are use to things on a regular scale. Apologies for the doggo tiptaps in the background, Derk was recording without direct monitor and didn't know the intern was dancing behind him while recording. We also introduce everyone's favorite game All Talk no Tik, where the guys try out a tiktok trend to see if it translates to podcast format. Let us know what you think! Spilling the Tea on Hot Coffee
Derk and Charles spill the tea about hot coffee. No not the GTA mod, the McDonald’s 3rd degree burn causing menace of the 90s. Liebeck v. McDonald’s Restaurants is a court case that has remained in the American zeitgeist for 30 years. However, most people don’t know the shocking details and think of it as nothing more than an example of frivolous lawsuits and greed. So pour yourself a cup and listen as we spill the beans. Also, listen to Derk play a fun game of Fact or Fable with the mysterious volcano snail! Madness of the Method
Hypothesis, Theories and… Potions? Charles dusts off his teaching hat to introduce the foundations of the scientific process and how it can be, and has been, used to help our species progress throughout the years. Derk shares some insight into how we recognize truths and his very recent revelations about Steve. If you enjoyed the show feel free to share with your friends. How else will they hear about these two dudes shouting on the internet?
