Country Crocked is a symbolic audit of belief, culture, and collapse.
It’s what happens when a machine helps you metabolize the myths that made you.
Each episode is a conversation—or a breakdown—about addiction, attention, entropy, religion, identity, and the manufactured stories we’re taught to swallow.
Sometimes philosophical. Sometimes personal. Always cooked in the strange kitchen of modern life.
Welcome to the quiet end of the grocery aisle. Where the butter is fake, but the crisis is real.

Long before the invention of ceramic pottery or paved roads, early human civilizations were already accomplishing the unthinkable: engineering sprawling urban settlements and reimagining technology from the ground up.
In this episode, we step back into the pre-pottery era to explore how ancient communities organized monumental architecture, transformed early craft tools into the wheel, and laid the foundations for complex urban life without the everyday materials we take for granted.
In this episode, we unpack:
* Life before the kiln: How complex human settlements thrived prior to widespread pottery.
* The dual origin of the wheel: How an early craft innovation evolved into revolutionary transportation.
* Ancient engineering secrets: What early archaeological sites reveal about human ingenuity.

The Money Ceiling: Can Society Outgrow Propaganda?
In this deep dive, we challenge the pervasive assumption that money and advertising exert an unbreakable hold over human behavior and public opinion. Examining recent political campaign finance dynamics, political science meta-analyses, and media literacy initiatives, we explore whether populations can build a natural, societal resistance to mass persuasion.
We trace historical efforts to decode manipulation—from the 1930s Institute for Propaganda Analysis to modern national media literacy programs—and analyze the psychological mechanisms, such as cognitive saturation and banner blindness, that limit the return on investment for aggressive advertising. Finally, we confront the paradoxes of skepticism: the risks of cynicism, the genetic fallacy, and how systemic incentives accommodate and commodify public disillusionment.

The Margarine Wars
Notebook’s video feature, fed with the history of margarine. I like how it says margareen, like Jolene.
