I was passionately working on several essays very important to me but became burnt out and jaded before they were finished…I’m sure I’ll get back to them, but in the meantime here is a cover. ~Arranged, recorded, mixed & produced by me; also, that’s me on clarinet~ My cover practice informed the beginnings of my own song practice, and now my own song practice is coming back to inform my cover practice. Similar to my experience with art—my inability to imitate existing works satisfactorily always read to me as my decided badness as an artist. I always felt that making things ‘work for me’ was cheating and did not count. Now I inconsistently realize that making things ‘work for me,’ to make it mine had always been the stuff of it all. My unfailing failure to successfully carry out alienated labor was involuntary, painful, and yet so important to my formation, of preference, distaste, and personal style. I am happy and sad still.
