   Episode 131: Imposter Syndrome

In this "Off Script" episode of CPhT Connect, host Mike Johnston, CPhT-Adv, goes solo to tackle a feeling almost every pharmacy technician knows well: imposter syndrome. After 27 years running NPTA, Mike admits there are still days he feels like an imposter, and he shares what took him far too long to learn: the feeling is never going to leave, so you can't wait for it to go quiet before you act. Mike traces the idea back to its 1978 origins, when two therapists described an "imposter phenomenon" in a small group of high-achieving women, and explains how "phenomenon" quietly became "syndrome" and moved the problem from the room onto the individual. He walks through the research, including a notable gap: studies have looked at pharmacy students, residents, faculty, nurses, and physicians, but not one published study asks pharmacy technicians whether they feel like they belong. Mike also explains where that inner voice comes from, why it comes back at every new level, and what to do about it on a real Tuesday morning. In this episode, we discuss: Phenomenon vs. Syndrome: How one word changed the story, and why calling it a condition to fix can keep talented people waiting on the sidelines. You're in the Majority: Why a 2025 analysis of about 11,000 healthcare workers found imposter feelings in 62% of them, and why 57.5% of pharmacy residents screened positive too. The Room or the Wiring: The two places Mike says the voice usually comes from, a workplace that never tells you you're good or a belief wired in long before you ever worked in pharmacy, and why neither one is evidence about who you are today. The Technician Research Gap: What it means that almost half a million technicians have not been the subject of a single published study on this topic. Do It Scared: Why confidence shows up after you act, why the feeling returns at every new level, and three steps you can take this week without anyone's permission. About Our Host: Mike Johnston, CPhT-Adv, is the founder and CEO of NPTA and founder of BPTS. For 27 years he has helped pharmacy technicians grow their careers, and he brings that experience, and his own honesty about still feeling it, to this episode. This episode is part of CPhT Connect's partnership with the Pharmacy Podcast Network. Listen now to hear why the feeling is real but the verdict is wrong, and why you don't need a cure, just a next step.

Episode 130: RxInfluencers - Todd Eury

In this episode of CPhT Connect, host Mike Johnston, CPhT-Adv, continues the Rx Influencer series, which spotlights the people leading the pharmacy industry, by sitting down with Todd Eury, CEO of RxPR LLC and founder, publisher, and host of the Pharmacy Podcast Network. Known as the "Rx Podfather," Todd launched the first podcast about the pharmacy profession in 2009. Today his network has produced more than 4,000 episodes and over 5 million downloads. He is also a longtime friend and media partner of NPTA. Todd is usually the one asking the questions, but in this conversation he takes the guest seat. He shares how he went from nearly a decade in telecommunications to selling software for long-term care pharmacies, and how a podcast that started as a "cheat code" for learning the industry grew into the largest podcast network dedicated to pharmacy professionals. Todd also opens up about the risks he took along the way, from a pay cut to enter pharmacy to the financial strain of going all-in on the network, as well as the controversies, online criticism, and sponsor decisions that tested what he stands for. In this episode, we discuss: Betting on Yourself: Why Todd took a pay cut to enter pharmacy and how the "water down a hill" consistency he built in his early sales career still drives him today. From Cheat Code to Network: How a one-episode-a-month show built to satisfy Todd's own curiosity became the Pharmacy Podcast Network, and why he says it was never about him, but about bringing in the experts. Standing for Something: The stories behind Todd's biggest episodes, his toughest moments, and why he believes you have to decide what you will and won't stand for, even when it costs you. A Profession at an Inflection Point: Todd's perspective on how pharmacy associations are finally collaborating, why pharmacists and technicians absorb the frustration of a system they didn't create, and what he sees coming over the next three to five years. The Next Evolution: How RxPR, the first public relations firm dedicated exclusively to the pharmacy industry, is taking the network beyond podcasting, including a new evidence-based podcasting seal designed to bring peer-reviewed credibility to audio content. About Our Guest: Todd Eury is the CEO of RxPR LLC and the founder, publisher, and host of the Pharmacy Podcast Network, the largest podcast network dedicated to pharmacy professionals. Affectionately known as the "Rx Podfather," Todd launched the first podcast about the pharmacy profession in 2009. His network has since produced more than 4,000 episodes and over 5 million downloads, covering everything from long-term care and compounding to pediatrics, biosimilars, and cell and gene therapy. Todd's Tip Top 50 awards program, which recognizes the most influential people in pharmacy, was also a direct inspiration for NPTA's Pharmacy Technician IMPACT Awards. Listen now to hear Todd's story of building something bigger than himself, and why he believes the pharmacy profession is on the verge of a golden age. Episode 129: I.M.P.A.C.T. Awards Ceremony

In this special episode of CPhT Connect, host Mike Johnston, CPhT-Adv, brings you the first-ever NPTA Pharmacy Technician I.M.P.A.C.T. Awards, held on World Pharmacy Technician Day. I.M.P.A.C.T. stands for Inspiring Meaningful Progress and Celebrating Technicians, and this full audio recording of the ceremony brings you every category, finalist story, and winner reveal. Mike opens with the story of how one idea from Peter Fazon, NPTA's chief of staff, turned into a year-long campaign that reached more than one million people. He explains how the awards were designed to be profession-wide, with no NPTA membership required, self-nominations welcome, and public voting. From there, each category begins with a look at the work technicians do and why it matters. You'll meet three finalists per category, hear a bit of each of their stories, and then hear the winners' pre-recorded acceptance speeches as they find out the results right along with the audience. In this episode, we discuss: One Idea, One Meeting: How a single suggestion in a planning meeting became the first annual I.M.P.A.C.T. Awards, and why Mike says impact doesn't wait for a title, a committee, or permission. A Profession-Wide Celebration: How hundreds of nominations from technicians around the globe led to three finalists in each category, and how future finalists will be chosen by the previous year's winners. Seven Categories, Seven Stories of Impact: The work behind patient care and medication access, education and training, compounding, innovation and technology, community pharmacy, health-system pharmacy, and leadership. Finalists From Across the Globe: Technicians from the US, Canada, and the UK, working everywhere from cancer centers and military bases to rural community pharmacies and health systems. Mike's Closing Challenge: Why technicians should name their impact, track it, advocate for themselves, and celebrate it with quiet confidence, because as Mike puts it, you are more than just a tech. […] So I went forward. I applied for the grant and after graduation, I was awarded the grant. And then I went to school. It was about a year. Part of that was doing an internship at hospital pharmacy and community pharmacy. So I did both. I really fell in love with hospital pharmacy right away immediately. I knew it's exactly where I wanted to be. And I knew that compounding is exactly what I wanted to do. As a student, I didn't get to do a lot of compounding. I did compounding, just playing around outside of the IV room. I did get to observe. But I just fell in love with it immediately. Everything about it was so fascinating. […]
