Cracked Open - Season 2 Episode 22: Givers and Takers
CRACKED OPEN — SEASON 3, EPISODE 22
GIVERS AND TAKERS: THE POWER OF EMPATHY
Are you a giver? A taker? Or somewhere in between?
Video of an 18 yr. old Giver:
When an Arizona teen saw an elderly man wearing a pair of shoes that were falling apart, the 18-year-old offered him his own — never knowing his random act of kindness was being captured on camera and would inspire so many people online.

We all know people who give without expecting anything in return. And we’ve probably all experienced what it feels like when somebody takes more than they give.
But there’s more to this conversation than generosity and selfishness.
What happens when giving becomes enabling? When kindness is taken for granted? When someone keeps giving until they have nothing left?
In this episode of Cracked Open, we’re talking about empathy, boundaries, accountability, and the difference between helping somebody and allowing yourself to be taken advantage of.
We’ll explore ideas from Adam Grant’s book Give and Take, reflect on what Scripture teaches about generosity, and ask some uncomfortable questions about our own behavior.
Because sometimes the hardest question isn’t whether somebody else has been taking advantage of us.
It’s whether we’ve ever been the taker in somebody else’s story.
Real Stories. Real Struggles. Real Life.

Cracked Open - Season 3 Episode 21: Women and Children first
CRACKED OPEN — SEASON 3, EPISODE 21WOMEN AND CHILDREN FIRSTWhat happened to the idea of putting others before ourselves? There was a time when the words “women and children first” represented something bigger than a rule during an emergency. They represented responsibility, courage, sacrifice, and the willingness to protect those who depend on us.In this episode of Cracked Open, Glen Nunes takes an honest look at what it means to love, protect, and stand by the people who matter most. From the lessons of the Titanic to the struggles of modern relationships, we explore the difference between genuine strength and control, between love and selfishness, and between making promises and actually keeping them.We talk about men stepping up, women recognizing their worth, broken relationships, loyalty, accountability, and the importance of leading by example.Glen also shares a touching experience from Deep Pond Farm & Stables that reminds us how even the smallest acts of kindness can make a lasting difference. This isn’t about being perfect. The Mat, The Jar, The Wall.- Cracked Open - Season 3 Episode 20
CRACKED OPEN — SEASON 3, EPISODE 20
THE MAT, THE JAR, THE WALL
Leaving the Past. Carrying the Testimony. Rebuilding What Matters.
What do you leave behind?
What do you carry forward?
And what in your life is worth rebuilding?
In this episode of Cracked Open, Glen Nunes explores three powerful images—a jar, a mat, and a wall—and what they can teach us about the things we carry through life.
The woman at the well left her jar behind.
The man at Bethesda was told to pick up his mat and walk.
And Nehemiah stood in front of the rubble and began rebuilding a wall—one stone at a time.
But this episode isn’t about pretending the past never happened. It’s about learning the difference between baggage and testimony.
Some things need to be put down.
Some things become part of the story we carry forward.
And some things—our peace, faith, health, confidence, purpose, and lives—are worth rebuilding.
We also talk about boundaries and the gate: learning what deserves access to the life you’re building without becoming so guarded that the wall meant to protect you becomes a prison.
Maybe healing isn’t forgetting your past.
Maybe healing is learning which parts of your past are testimony and which parts are baggage.
You don’t have to rebuild everything today.
Sometimes you just need to pick up one stone.
Leave the jar.
Carry the mat.
Rebuild the wall.
Guard the gate.
And keep living.
In this heavy-hitting episode of Cracked Open, host Glen Nunes tears down the illusion of "cheap positivity" and digs deep into the psychological and spiritual architecture of human boundaries and recovery. Using the powerful, real-life historical account of Nicholas Winton saving 669 children on the brink of World War II, this episode explores what it truly means to survive an emotional winter.
Glen breaks down three distinct physical movements required to break out of a long-term emotional rut:
