Cranial Chaos explores the beliefs, rules, stories, expectations and mental clutter that shape how we live so we can decide what still belongs and what we want to do differently.
Because somewhere along the way, your brain became a mental junk drawer stuffed full of old beliefs, outdated rules, other people’s opinions, childhood programming, worst-case scenarios, unfinished conversations, random guilt and about seventeen thousand “what ifs.”
No wonder it’s hard to hear yourself think.
Cranial Chaos is for anyone who’s ready to stop endlessly analyzing their life and start understanding what’s actually running the show.
Together, we’ll explore the thoughts, patterns and inherited beliefs that quietly shape how you see yourself, what you expect from life and the choices you make every day.
Not so someone else can tell you what to believe.
So you can decide for yourself.
Through honest conversations, practical teaching, curious exploration and a healthy dose of humor, we’ll make sense of the chaos and question what no longer fits, so you can see yourself, your patterns and your choices more clearly.
Because clarity starts with noticing.
Trust grows when you listen to yourself.
And change happens when you do something with what you discover.
Welcome to Cranial Chaos: Cracking the Code.
I had a plan. A Halloween production. A recording schedule. And absolutely no intention of changing any of it.
Unfortunately, life had other ideas.
One broken tooth, one very unhappy tongue, and a spectacular battle between determination and reality later, I found myself facing something I hadn't planned for: the possibility that the show simply wasn't going to go on.
This week, I'm taking you behind the scenes of my own Cranial Chaos, sharing a very personal, occasionally ridiculous story about what happens when life refuses to cooperate with our expectations.
There was pain. There was laughter. There was some serious internal negotiating. And there were a few surprises I never saw coming.
Because making plans is one thing. Getting life to agree to them? Well, that's an entirely different conversation.

Absence Slip
Well, this wasn't quite how I planned to spend Halloween week!
First, I broke a tooth. Then that tooth decided it wasn't going down alone and attempted to take my tongue out with it! And when I tried to push through recording, my microphone joined the conspiracy. My tongue never stood a chance!
So instead of our usual episode, I'm popping in with a quick update and a little explanation for today's change of plans.
Thanks for being here, my friends. I appreciate you!

Excuse Me, Self, I Wasn’t Done Choosing
Ever catch yourself halfway down an old, familiar path, snapping at someone, saying “yes” when you desperately wanted to say “no,” or getting defensive, only to think, “Dammit, I did it again”?
In this episode, I’m sharing three simple, road-tested tools to help you catch those automatic reactions sooner, slow things down, and give yourself a chance to choose what happens next.
Because repeating an old behavior doesn’t mean you still agree with it, and it definitely doesn’t mean you’re back at square one.
We’ll also look at why noticing late is still progress, how awareness and agreement are not the same thing, and why noticing afterward is the beginning of noticing beforehand.
What we’re diving into:
The “Dammit” Realization: Why noticing after the moment has passed is actually the beginning of noticing before it happens.
Awareness vs. Agreement: Why doing the old thing doesn’t necessarily mean you still believe it’s the right thing.
The Rumble Strip: How to recognize those little warning signs that an old, familiar reaction is starting to take over.
The Mental Speed Bump: How doing something physical can interrupt the pattern before it keeps barreling ahead.
The STOP Method: A simple four-step mindfulness tool to help you slow down, look at what’s actually happening, and choose how you want to proceed.

My Brain Is Doing WHAT Behind My Back?
Have you ever tried changing a habit, making a different choice, or reacting in a new way... only to feel an immediate wave of tension, hesitation, or discomfort?
This week, we’re peeking under the hood of your brain to find out what’s actually happening when you start doing things differently.
In this episode, we get into:
Autopilot vs. Active Brain: Why the old way takes less effort and why doing something differently suddenly requires so much damn attention.
Your Brain, Amateur Meteorologist: How your brain runs forecasts in the background all day long and what happens when reality doesn't match the prediction.
The Uncomfortably Comfortable Trap: Why you can desperately want something to change and still feel pulled toward the same old familiar misery.
Red Alert! Unauthorized Behavior Detected: Why doing something differently can crank up your internal alert system without automatically meaning something is wrong.
Paving the New Road: How your brain learns through repetition and why the new way gets a whole lot less weird with practice.
So, before you treat every uncomfortable reaction like proof that you’ve made a wrong turn, ask yourself:
Is something wrong... or is my system updating?

RED ALERT! Unauthorized Behavior Detected!
Ever make a completely reasonable decision - like turning on Do Not Disturb & silencing your calls so you can focus - only to be hit with a wave of panic that screams, YOU’VE MADE A TERRIBLE MISTAKE!?
You didn’t do anything wrong. You’ve just tripped your brain’s internal alarm system.
In this episode, we’re moving from the courtroom into detective mode.
We’re breaking down why doing something differently can feel so weird - even when you’ve already decided it’s exactly what you want to do, why your comfort zone may not be all that comfortable, and how to stop treating normal internal awkwardness like proof that you made the wrong decision.
We’ll also explore:
The sneaky difference between a wrong decision and a new pattern.
Carole’s "Do Not Disturb" confession and the imaginary international treaty she violated.
Three ridiculously simple, low-stakes experiments to mess with your brain's automatic patterns this week (starting with your toothbrush).
Grab your magnifying glass, clock the discomfort, and let's collect some evidence.
Happy hunting, Detective.

Your Mind Called. It Has Notes (and They Suck)
Ever feel like you’re living with an uninvited, highly critical roommate who follows you around all day telling you you’re going to screw up, everyone is judging you, and you should be further along by now?
But unfortunately, you can’t change the locks.
In this episode of Cranial Chaos: Cracking the Code, Carole breaks down how your mind can take a fear, insecurity, assumption, or opinion and report it like a non-negotiable fact.
In this episode, we cover:
Why your mind can sound wildly confident even when the evidence is shaky
Why Barbara from accounting does not get to decide how you feel
How to stop letting unproven thoughts quietly make your decisions for you
You may not be able to change the locks, but you can stop believing everything your roommate tells you. And from now on, they better bring receipts.

How the Hell Did THAT Get in There?
If you’ve ever caught yourself thinking, I always screw things up, relationships never work out for me, or this is just how I am - your brain may have quietly promoted a few old conclusions to “fact” without asking your permission.
Rude.
In this episode, Carole digs into how that happens.
Through a simple roast-pan story, a silent scorekeeper, and a few very human examples, we look at how beliefs get handed down, picked up, repeated, and built from our own experiences.
A mistake becomes a pattern.
A pattern becomes a belief.
And before long, that belief is sitting at the top of the mental junk drawer, ready to weigh in on your next decision like it owns the place.
We’ll also look at why some beliefs stick around long after the circumstances that created them are gone, and why that doesn’t automatically make them bad, stupid, or wrong.
Sometimes they simply outlive their purpose.
By the end, you may start looking at a few of your so-called “facts” a little differently.

Dead Batteries, Mystery Keys & The Mental Junk Drawer
If you are like most folks, you have a kitchen drawer is stuffed full of dead batteries, mystery keys, and loads of other random stuff you’ve accumulated over the years.
Well, your brain has a version of that too, which Carole calls your Mental Junk Drawer. Only this drawer is stuffed full of old beliefs, outdated rules, other people’s opinions, worst-case scenarios... and probably a few things you don’t even remember putting there.
In this episode, we’re opening it up to see what your brain reaches for when life happens and why all that rummaging can turn a perfectly ordinary moment into Cranial Chaos.
We’ll explore:
The Potato Masher Lesson: How something perfectly useful can make life harder when it’s sitting in the wrong place and blocking easy access to what you actually need.
The Taco Bell Sauce Packet Dilemma: How some things can hang around so long you don’t even remember why they’re still in there.
Why You Don’t Need to Dump the Drawer Out: Instead of digging around for problems, we life point towards what’s active by noticing what feels off, what isn’t working, and the reactions that make you wonder... “What the hell was THAT about?”
Plus, Carole leaves you with the one important question:
How much of what’s rattling around in your Mental Junk Drawer did you actually put there?

47 Tabs Open & A Smoking Brain (Cranial Chaos in Action)
Your brain isn’t broken - it’s just hosting a chaotic, uninvited committee meeting that refuses to shut up.
If you’ve ever spiraled from one simple decision into ten competing thoughts, second-guessed yourself into exhaustion, or talked yourself out of the exact change you wanted to make, this episode is going to feel uncomfortably familiar.
In this episode, Carole takes you inside Cranial Chaos - the mental storm that can turn a clear, perfectly good plan into noise, doubt and total paralysis.
What begins as a barrage of competing thoughts can quickly become something much bigger: questioning decisions you were clear about five minutes ago, dragging old mistakes and rejection back into the room, and slowly chipping away at your confidence, clarity and ability to trust yourself.
In this episode, we explore:
• The Committee Meeting: What it feels like when too many thoughts are competing for your attention at once.
• 47 Tabs Open: How mental noise can turn an ordinary decision into overwhelm, second-guessing and indecision.
• When the Past Joins the Meeting: How old mistakes, rejection and self-doubt can suddenly show up and start influencing what you believe about yourself right now.
Plus, Carole sets up what’s coming next: The Mental Junk Drawer - that messy collection of thoughts, beliefs, rules, expectations and assorted mental crap we’ve collected along the way.
