Saturn's Return: Stoking Creative Success Through Sacrifice
A creative life demands sacrifice long before it offers reward. Through the lens of Saturn and his two traditional signs—Aquarius and Capricorn—this essay explores why artists are asked to surrender approval, certainty, and even respect in exchange for a life that feels deeply authentic. From an unforgettable lesson on the first day of art school to Van Gogh’s letters and the symbolism of the Saturn return, we examine why the very qualities that make creatives feel like outsiders are often th...

Why Artists Need Familiar Spirits in the Age of AI
Peers and professors told me to dismantle my practice. I chose to deepen it instead. In this essay, I explore the concept of artistic familiars: the recurring themes, symbols, subjects, and obsessions that haunt our creative lives. Drawing on folklore, witchcraft, and my own experience in graduate school, I argue that mastery doesn't come from endlessly reinventing yourself, but from returning to what fascinates you again and again. In an era infatuated with novelty and increasingly shaped by...

Going Unseen? Build Your Art Brand Like an Altar
As an artist, visibility isn't solely a byproduct of benevolent algorithms or luck; it comes from building a brand that reflects the spirit of your work. Drawing from the law of correspondence, altar building, and my own experience as an artist, I share a framework for creating a brand that feels intentional and resonant. The key takeaway is this: you need to understand the unique value of your art before anyone else can see it. And once someone does, their choosing to enter your world is far...

How to Amplify Your Art's Aura Online
In this episode, I explore the concept of artistic aura and what it means to preserve—and even amplify—it online. Drawing on Walter Benjamin's seminal essay, I examine whether digital reproduction truly diminishes an artwork's presence, and how artists can navigate the tension between visibility and authenticity in an age of constant sharing. I also challenge the idea that the best content is effortless, arguing that thoughtful curation is often a deeper expression of artistic integrity than ...

Soulful Selling & Being a Priestess of Your Art
What if telling people your art is for sale felt like an act of devotion instead of a chore? In this audio essay, I share soulful strategies for selling your art without feeling like a fraud. Using tarot archetypes as a framework, I explore how professional artists can embody the High Priestess for greater commercial ease and confidence. You'll learn how to honour your intuition, stand (or sit) firm in your work’s worth, and build your own capacity for "salesyness" by embracing yo...

The Protective Magic of Honing Your Artistic Voice
A viral Instagram artist accusing another of plagiarizing them has me considering what exactly it means to make distinctive work and to have ownership of your art. This led me to explore how honing your artistic voice protects against comparison and creative insecurity. In this audio essay, I argue that making generic artwork invites conflict, while authentic, deeply developed expression holds its own. Blending creativity with magical thinking, I introduce occult ideas such as the law o...

How Artists Can Thrive Despite AI: Embracing the Trickster
As AI-generated art floods the internet, many artists are questioning how to stay relevant. Using the archetypal Trickster as a guide, I illustrate exactly how creatives can outshine artificial intelligence and reclaim their power. Drawing on the concept of physical awareness as an antidote to AI slop, I look to Frida Kahlo as an example of how embodiment plays a crucial role in the creative process, and how you can mine your lived experience to give your art greater depth. Finall...

Share Your Art Without Burnout: Lessons from Persephone
Many artists begin the year with the goal of posting more, building an audience, or documenting their process, only to fall off during the dark winter months. As spring returns, so does our motivation. Still, for many of us, that spark is accompanied by the fear that consistency won’t last—and creative burnout will rear its ugly head again. In this essay, I illustrate how to take advantage of this natural cycle rather than falling victim to it. Drawing on the story of Persephone’s seasonal de...
