Episode 41: Creatrium with William Hayter - Part Two

Here's part 2 of a two part interview with the fascinating and highly eclectic William Hayter. *Credit to Francesco Paladino - WILLIAM HAYTER — SOUND BEFORE GENRE.To describe William Hayter simply as a drummer is to describe only one part of his musical identity. He is certainly a drummer and percussionist, but also a recording engineer, producer, arranger, curator, sound designer and experimental musician. His career does not follow the conventional rock trajectory of band, album, tour and solo career. Instead, it forms a network connecting DIY cassette culture, free improvisation, hard rock, post-punk, folk, Canterbury, psychedelia, progressive music, electronics, found sound and musique concrète.Hayter describes himself as a “Drummer, Percussionist, Sound Engineer, Producer, Sonic Explorer, Sound Designer and Experimental Musician.” The crucial phrase may be “sonic explorer.” From the beginning, his work suggests a stronger interest in the possibilities of sound itself than in allegiance to any particular genre.Part Two in particular, investigates the notion of creativity and how that run's htrough wide array of published work. That belief remains the foundation of our business.
