   Complacency

Giving thanks in all circumstances sounds impossible when you are grieving, out of work, or watching the bills outrun the paycheck. Haggai 1 supplies the shift in perspective that makes that command livable. Main text: Haggai 1v1-13 Outline: - Why "give thanks in all circumstances" feels impossible (1 Thessalonians 5v16-18) - God is a God of disruption (Haggai 1v1-2) - God is a God of exposure (Haggai 1v4-5) - God is a God of agitation (Haggai 1v6-9) - The immediate promise, "I am with you" (Haggai 1v12-13) Keegan Wilson reads Haggai 1 as a chiasm that turns on one command, "consider your ways." The Jews who came home from exile spent sixteen years telling themselves the time had not yet come to rebuild the temple, all while paneling their own houses with cedar meant for God's house. Their wages went into a bag with holes, which is Haggai's picture of chronic dissatisfaction: more income, more stuff, still no contentment. If you have ever wondered why God seems to be fighting you, or caught yourself saying you will pray, serve, and give once the promotion lands or the kids move out, this lesson is about complacency, procrastination, money, anxiety, and what God is actually doing when he interrupts a comfortable life. When a Burden Becomes a Blessing

This lesson examines Joseph's remarkable words in Genesis 50:20: “You meant evil against me; but God meant it for good.” Joseph knew betrayal, rejection, false accusation, imprisonment, and years of uncertainty, yet none of those things prevented God from accomplishing His purpose. This sermon follows three movements in Joseph's story: the intention behind the evil committed against him, the intervention of God's providence, and the insight that allowed Joseph to see God's redemptive purpose without seeking revenge. From Joseph's pit and prison to his elevation in Egypt, the message ultimately points to Jesus Christ. At the cross, sinful men acted wickedly, yet God accomplished His saving purpose through the death and resurrection of His Son. Genesis 50:20 reminds us that God's ability to redeem what happened does not mean He approved what happened. Evil remains evil, but evil never receives the final word when God is at work. Scriptures include Genesis 37, Genesis 39, Genesis 41, Genesis 45, Genesis 50:20, Exodus 1:12, Psalm 30:5, Romans 12:19, Acts 2:23, Acts 4:27-28, James 1:2-4, Hebrews 12:5-11, and John 3:16. 3949 Lithia Pinecrest Rd. Amos: The Lord Will Roar

One of the Bible's strongest prophetic messages about sin, justice, repentance, worship, and restoration. Amos was a shepherd and tender of sycamore fruit from Tekoa whom God sent north to confront prosperous but spiritually corrupt Israel. Through the roar of the Lord in Amos 1 and 2, God's warnings in Amos 3 through 6, and the visions and promised restoration of Amos 7 through 9, this sermon shows why religious activity can never substitute for righteousness. This lesson also connects Amos's promise concerning the fallen tent of David with Acts 15, where James applies the prophecy to God's work among the nations. The message of Amos remains urgent: prepare to meet your God, seek the Lord and live, hate evil, love good, establish justice, and remember both the kindness and severity of God. 3949 Lithia Pinecrest Rd.
