This podcast will discuss genealogy, linguistics, and history within the Creolophone world.
I’m a native New Yorker of Louisiana Creole descent. I have a B.A. in French Linguistics w/ a 'concentration' in Creole studies. I study genealogy on the side. Contact: marcgenealogy2023@gmail.com
I have a French language Podcast: Rêve Américain. Go check it out; Maybe even subscribe.
In this episode I discuss a lot!
Minority Caribbean countries culturally get absorbed by larger Caribbean countries. Especially in the case of 1st gen Americans from these smaller countries. Many of these individuals might feel they are connected to their parents’ homeland, but they really aren’t as much as they think
Haitian suffering is part of the Haitian identity , a part that an American born of Haitian descent just will never understand
Schools are extremely important parts of socialization and identify development. So, even if you’re raising kids in your culture, if their school culture is incongruent, they are far more likely to be culturally more similar to their school culture / peers.
Many American cities do not have a melting pot of Caribbean culture. It’s often one sided. Hence why many Caribbean Americans will know more about whatever country is dominant rather than their own ethnic cultural heritage.

Which Indo-Caribbean group creolized the most?
I made this Audio for my friends, but it got somewhat informative, so I decided to share it here.
If you didn’t know, another complex layer of my identify is I was born & raised in Little Guyana, a Guyanese enclave of NYC, which has the largest indo caribbean diaspora in the United States.
I hope to EXPAND on this topic. This is just very informal basics.
