The laminated "SOLD - D.P." tag started a fall from a sixty-seven-year life

A laminated "SOLD - D.P." tag on a Master Lock at a rural storage lot - a sixty-seven-year-old widow finds her unit emptied; how does a legal auction hide a theft? The laminated "SOLD - D.P." tag started a fall from a sixty-seven-year life In this episode, we present the chain of events that led from a laminated index card on a lock to a county auditor uncovering a repeating pattern across dozens of storage auctions. Follow the procedural details, the paperwork, and the small decisions that exposed a system engineered to look lawful - and ask how so many safeguards could fail. What does the spreadsheet reveal about D.P. and the empty units? Date: May 7, 2019 Location: Thorpe Storage Solutions, four miles east of Harwick Person: Marta Solis Person: Jerry Thorpe Person: Rachel Gallagher - Jason Hunter found a laminated "SOLD - D.P. - 4/30" index card zip-tied to the shackle of Unit 114’s keyed Master Lock and photographed it with a geo-tagged, time-stamped image. - Marta Solis signed storage-auction paperwork in April 2019, paid a $1,140 commission, and expected an auction scheduled for May 11 to liquidate her late husband’s woodworking tools. - Jerry Thorpe ran Thorpe Storage Solutions with licenses, advertised auctions in county legal notices, issued commission invoices on letterhead, and handled seller paperwork himself. - Administrative assistant Jean Whitfield maintained an Excel spreadsheet with three columns-visitor initials, access date, and auction date-commonly recording the initials "D.P." in the visitor column. - Auditor Rachel Gallagher received the spreadsheet via a labor-board records request, found 42 rows with a consistent gap of five to eight days between "D.P. visit" and auction date, and identified Unit 114’s public May 11 listing despite the unit already being empty.
