AI Agents are HERE!! -What the GRC task exposure matrix Reveals about GRC Roles

GRC Roles are being transformed by AI. What's at risk- and what to do about it.

AI and the Transformation of Governance, Risk, and Compliance Roles

AI is changing GRC fastest at the task level, not the profession level. The work most exposed today is repetitive, document-heavy, rule-mapping, evidence-gathering, and first-draft work: regulatory horizon scanning, policy drafting, control evidence collection, alert triage, questionnaire review, workpaper summarization, issue clustering, and management-report drafting. The work least exposed is accountable judgment under ambiguity: setting risk appetite, deciding materiality, weighing legal trade-offs, determining control sufficiency, interviewing, escalating to the board, certifying disclosures, and defending decisions to regulators. In other words, GRC is moving from “manual control administration” toward “AI-assisted exception handling, challenge, validation, and assurance.”
