The Morality of Doing Absolutely Nothing

Is doing nothing still a moral choice? In this episode of D & Candy V, we dive headfirst into the uncomfortable gray area between action and inaction—and whether “not choosing” is actually a choice with consequences. From a warehouse basement on the wrong side of the tracks, D and Candy V unpack the trolley problem, Good Samaritan laws, moral responsibility, proximity, intention, and the quiet ways we justify not stepping in. From Seinfeld’s infamous finale to real-world moments of hesitation, guilt, compassion, and self-preservation, this conversation spirals into bigger questions about morality itself. Is morality binary—or deeply personal?Does inaction remove responsibility, or secretly create it?At what point does helping become unreasonable… or even harmful? And who gets to decide what counts as “doing the right thing” anyway? Along the way, the conversation touches on: Inaction as a form of action Moral responsibility vs. moral exhaustion Proximity, visibility, and the bystander effect Capitalism, charity, and “transferring” moral weight Family, safety, and justified self-interest Whether morality is objective, subjective, or just deeply private Listen. Think. Disagree. Sit with the discomfort. Episode 11 - Let’s Solve Consciousness!

This episode started with “What is consciousness?” and very quickly turned into a spiral involving flatworms, Lego robots, emergent behavior, AI fear of death, free will (or the lack of it), and why humans seem absolutely obsessed with meaning. Is consciousness something special and mystical? Or is it just what happens when you stack enough stimulus-response loops on top of each other and add memory, needs, and feedback? We talked about: • The difference between having a thought and knowing you’re having a thought • Why AI doesn’t “want” anything (yet) • Whether meaning is necessary for survival • If fear, needs, and motivation are the missing ingredients for consciousness • Why creating things feels essential for some people—and meaningless for others • And whether free will is just a really convincing story we tell ourselves At some point we realized that a lot of what we think makes humans special might just be complexity + survivorship + feedback loops… which is both fascinating and mildly unsettling. We definitely didn’t solve consciousness—but we might have made it harder to believe in the magic version of it. If you dig the show, please be sure to “like” and subscribe!

Episode Ten: Superstitions and the Longing for Control

In this episode, D and Candy dive deep into the strange, funny, and very human world of superstition. From baseball rituals and rally caps to manifesting, witchcraft, crystals, prayer, astrology, and conspiracy theories, the two explore why our brains cling to patterns, even when they are utterly illogical. They discuss psychology, confirmation bias, the limbic system, and why even the most skeptical among us still fall into little rituals that make us feel just a bit safer. The episode moves from hilarious anecdotes to thoughtful insights about belief, fear, identity, and the deep human desire to impose order on randomness.

Episode Nine: What Scares You? - or The Spooky Episode

From a warehouse basement on the wrong side of the tracks, D and Candy V dive deep into the psychology of fear in their first annual Halloween Special. What begins as a simple question—“What scares you?”—unfolds into a haunting exploration of nightmares, memory, and the uncanny. They unpack everything from Kafka’s surreal horror to Black Mirror’s “Playtest,” from the weirdly creepy Super Mario 64’s haunted piano to cinematic classics like The Shining and Hereditary. Along the way, they confront themes of dementia, gaslighting, and losing one’s grip on reality—blurring the line between existential dread and supernatural fear. This is not your average Halloween chat. It’s a philosophical séance, a darkly funny descent into what it means to be human in a world that sometimes doesn’t feel quite right.

Episode Eight: Pronouns and Generalized Gender F**kery

From a warehouse basement on the wrong side of the tracks, D and Candy V dive deep into one of today’s most misunderstood topics: pronouns. Why has something so simple become so divisive? What does it mean when language shifts, and why do some people resist? In this candid, funny, and thought-provoking conversation, we explore: The personal meaning and affirmation behind using someone’s chosen pronouns. How gender dysphoria and identity intersect with language. Why empathy, proximity, and lived experience matter in shaping understanding. The bigger questions of social acceptance, harm, and how societies evolve. Whether you’ve wrestled with these conversations in your own circles, or you’re just curious to hear two friends pull apart the cultural tension around identity, language, and belonging—this episode is for you. D & Candy V isn’t about easy answers. It’s about the messy, human, and sometimes hilarious ways we try to understand each other.
