Dad Lyfe: The Man Behind the Role is a podcast about the parts of fatherhood nobody talks about.
Hosted by Matt Fusco, this show explores the invisible weight dads carry every day while balancing life as a provider, protector, husband, employee, and father.
Through honest stories about third shift life, Daddy Daycare, mental load, infertility, and the daily struggle to show up for family, Dad Lyfe reminds dads that they are not alone.
This isn’t about being a perfect dad—it’s about being a real one.
The weight they never see. The love they always feel.
Dad Lyfe started with my story, but it was never meant to stay that way.
After sharing some incredible listener stories, I wanted to take a few minutes to talk about where Dad Lyfe has been, what these stories have meant to me, and where we go from here.
To everyone who has listened, followed, shared, supported, or trusted me with your story—thank you.
Now I want to hear from you.
Do you want more listener stories? New topics? Something about fatherhood that you feel doesn’t get talked about enough?
And if you have a story of your own, I’d love to help you share it.
This isn’t just my story anymore.
Let’s build Dad Lyfe together.

Episode 15: Growth and Perspectives | Listener Story
Episode 15: Growth in Prospectives | Listener Story
What does it mean to be the parent who stays?
In this listener story, Growth in Prospectives shares a journey through fatherhood that began before he ever had biological children of his own.
He stepped into the lives of two little girls and loved them as his own. He experienced betrayal, divorce, and the painful loss of the everyday relationship he had with those girls. Then, when his son’s mother disappeared from his life at five years old, he became the parent who stayed.
Years later, he opened himself up to building a family again, navigating the difficult balance between being a husband and protecting a son who had already experienced abandonment. His journey through fatherhood would change again when one of his younger sons was diagnosed with Level 3 autism and was nonverbal.
This isn’t only a story about being an autism dad.
It’s about loving kids regardless of biology. It’s about loss, rebuilding, protecting your children, adapting to the father they need you to be, and continuing to show up when life looks nothing like you imagined it would.
Thank you to Growth in Prospectives for trusting Dad Lyfe with his story.
And thank you to every dad who has reached out and shared a piece of his life with me. These stories are what I want Dad Lyfe to be about — reminding dads that whatever they’re carrying, they don’t have to carry it alone.
If you have a story you’d like to share, I’d love to hear from you.

Episode 14: Shaun’s Story | Listener Story
Episode 14: Shaun’s Story | Listener Story
As an Army father, Shaun knew his service would mean sacrifice. What he wasn’t prepared for was the guilt of watching his children grow up from thousands of miles away.
During a year-long deployment to Afghanistan, Shaun missed first steps, first words, birthdays, and other moments he could never get back. Years later, another year away in Bahrain brought a different challenge: coming home to older kids who had grown, changed, and learned how to live without Dad being there every day.
In this listener story, Shaun shares the guilt and self-doubt that came with being away, the challenge of finding his place again when he came home, and the lesson he learned along the way — sometimes being a dad means meeting your kids where they are and continuing to show up.
Because even after all these years, one question still finds its way into Shaun’s mind:
Am I doing enough to be the father they deserve?
This is Shaun’s story of sacrifice, reconnecting with his kids, and learning that while they may not always say what Dad means to them, their actions can say everything.

Episode 13: The Single Father Playbook | Listener Story
Sometimes the biggest lesson a father learns comes when everything he’s built falls apart.
In the first Dad Lyfe listener story told in his own words, Russell shares the chapter of his life that changed everything. From leaving the family home and starting over, to the fear of not giving his boys enough, he opens up about the moments that reshaped him as a father.
This is a story about rebuilding, rediscovering what really matters, and realizing that your kids don’t need perfect circumstances… they just need you.

Episode 12: healingdad88 | Listener Story
There was a point in @HealingDad88’s life when he truly believed his kids would be better off without him.
Struggling with his mental health, feeling like he was failing as a father, and watching his life fall apart, he reached one of the darkest points of his life.
Then everything changed.
In this Dad Lyfe listener story, @HealingDad88 shares how losing nearly everything became the wake-up call that pushed him to fight for his kids, rebuild his life, and become the father he knew they deserved.
His message to every dad who feels like he’s failed:
It’s never too late. Keep showing up.

Episode 11: TSY9493 | Listener Story
For the first time on Dad Lyfe, I’m sharing a story from one of you.
In Episode 11, tsy9493 from the Dads Supporting Dads community shares what it feels like when the dream you spent years chasing no longer fits the life you want as a father.
After 10 years in law enforcement, he’s faced with a decision: stay in a role he’s proud of that has become part of who he is, or make a change that could give him more stability, safety, and most importantly, more time to be present for his son.
But when your career becomes part of your identity, making that choice isn’t as simple as it sounds.
This is a story about fatherhood, identity, purpose, and realizing that sometimes becoming a dad doesn’t mean giving up on who you were.
It means figuring out who you want to become.

Episode 10: A Father’s Legacy
When your children think back on you years from now… what will they remember?
Will it be the things you bought them?
The hours you worked?
Or the moments you chose to spend by their side?
In this episode of Dad Lyfe: The Man Behind the Role, I reflect on what it really means to leave a legacy as a father. It’s not about money, titles, or accomplishments. It’s about the lessons we teach, the love we show, and the memories we create long after we’re gone.
None of us know how much time we have. That’s why every conversation, every hug, every game played in the backyard, and every bedtime story matters more than we realize.
If this episode leaves you with one thought, let it be this: your children may not remember everything you said, but they’ll never forget how you made them feel.
You’re not just raising children. You’re building your legacy.

Episode 9: Where Did I Go?
Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered… Where did I go?
Fatherhood changes everything. Your priorities shift. Your time isn’t your own anymore. The hobbies, routines, and version of yourself you once knew slowly fade into the background as your family becomes your world.
In this episode of Dad Lyfe: The Man Behind the Role, I share my own journey of navigating that change—the things I’ve gained, the parts of myself I’ve lost, and why I wouldn’t trade being a dad for anything.
This isn’t about missing my old life. It’s about understanding that becoming the father my children deserve meant becoming a different version of myself.
If you’ve ever felt like you’ve lost a piece of who you used to be, this conversation is for you.
You’re not alone. Keep showing up.

Episode 8: The Guilt Never Ends
Do you ever lie awake wondering if you did enough today?
In this episode of Dad Lyfe: The Man Behind the Role, I talk about one of the biggest struggles I’ve faced as a father: guilt.
The guilt of leaving for work.
The guilt of missing moments.
The guilt of feeling like I should have done more—even on the days when I gave everything I had.
This episode isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about being honest about the thoughts so many dads carry but rarely talk about.
If you’ve ever questioned whether you’re a good enough dad, I hope this episode reminds you of one thing:
You’re not alone.
Thank you for being here, and thank you for being part of the Dad Lyfe community.

Episode 7: The Day I Became a Dad
There are moments in life that divide everything into “before” and “after.”
For Matt, that moment came on December 27, 2023.
After years of waiting, heartbreak, and uncertainty, the day had finally arrived. But nothing could have prepared him for what happened in the delivery room—or for the overwhelming emotions that came with hearing his son’s first cry.
This is the story of the day he didn’t just meet his son.
This is the day he became a dad.

Episode 6: The Dad Before the Dad (Part 2)
A knock in the middle of the night.
A moment of panic.
A fear no parent—or parent-to-be—ever wants to face.
In Part 2 of The Dad Before the Dad, Matt shares the emotional reality of the IVF journey, the helplessness of watching someone you love suffer, and how becoming a father started long before his son was ever born.
Some of the hardest parts of fatherhood happen before anyone calls you “Dad.”

Episode 5: The Dad Before the Dad (Part 1)
Most people believe fatherhood begins the day you hold your child for the first time.
For me, it started years earlier.
In this deeply personal episode, I share the beginning of my wife and I’s journey through infertility—the hope, the disappointment, the uncertainty, and the guilt that came with hearing news I never expected.
This isn’t just a story about IVF.
It’s about becoming a father long before becoming a dad.
If you’ve ever faced unexpected challenges on the road to parenthood—or supported someone who has—I hope this episode reminds you that you are not alone.

Every decision feels heavier when a family depends on you. In this episode, I share the difficult decision to leave the comfort of a role I’d known for years in hopes of creating a better future for my family. If you’ve ever laid awake wondering if you’re making the right choice, you’re not alone.

Episode 3 – When Dad Never Clocks Out
There are no time clocks in fatherhood. In this episode, I talk about the reality of going from employee to dad without ever truly getting a break, and how the pressure to keep showing up can quietly build over time. If you’ve ever felt exhausted but kept going anyway, this episode is for you.

Episode 2 – Daddy Daycare: The Reward and the Reality
Being a stay-at-home dad during the day and working nights has taught me that being present is both rewarding and exhausting. Episode 1: Why I Started Dad Lyfe
Welcome to Dad Lyfe: The Man Behind the Role.
In this first episode, I share why I decided to start this podcast and the invisible weight so many dads carry every day.
The hidden mental battles.
The sleep deprivation.
The pressure of being a provider.
Trying to balance being a husband, a father, an employee, and somehow still finding time for yourself.
Dad Lyfe was created to have honest conversations about the things dads rarely say out loud.
No experts. No perfect dads. Just real life.
If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, exhausted, or like you’re carrying the weight of the world in silence, I want you to know something:
You are not alone.
The weight they never see. The love they always feel.
