Welcome to the Dad's Roundtable where Crossings pastors and leaders share how fatherhood and faith intersect—it's not always pretty! Our goal is to encourage dads and share some practical tips on topics like work/life balance, talking to little kids about a big God, the dad job description, and having "the" talk. Join us on the journey of fatherhood at the Dad's Roundtable.
In this episode of Dad’s Roundtable we look at James 5 to remind dads that spiritual greatness doesn’t require being superhuman. Elijah was “just a man,” but his surrendered heart and persistent prayers had extraordinary impact. Faithful, praying dads model a powerful legacy of trust in God—right from the center of everyday life.

“Who’s the Boss?” – Serve by Leading (James 4:1-10)
Does selfish ambition get in the way of being a good leader at home? When a dad submits to God, he leads his family with humility, grace, and purpose. It’s not about control—it’s about modeling what it means to live under God’s leadership. In this episode of Dad’s Roundtable, we unpack James 4 and the surprising truth that strong fatherhood begins with surrender.

"Power Tools” – Speaking Life to Your Children (James 3:1-18)
Our words speaking life into our kids can be as powerful as a rudder guiding a boat in a storm. Our words can also be as dangerous as a spark in a wildfire. In this episode, we discuss James 3 and taming our tongue.

In this episode, we dive into the powerful connection between a father’s words and actions. James 1:19–27 reminds us that kids are watching—what we live teaches louder than what we say. Integrity at home, especially in how we treat our family, is where authentic faith begins.

As for you, Man of God...
Paul ends his first letter to Timothy with a challenge, “As for you, man of God, … pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, gentleness. … Fight the good fight of faith.” As dads we can get so wrapped up in things that distract that pursuit. We drift, get busy and all of the sudden our goals are focused somewhere entirely different. In this episode we discuss how we fight the good fight in the pursuit like Timothy.

God's Design for Sex and Dating
The over-sexualized culture has a lot to say about sexual intimacy and dating that us dads need to pay attention to. Our kids will become inundated with sexual content and conversations (if they aren’t already!) and it’s our responsibility to outline God’s plan for sexual stewardship and dating by providing opportunities for conversations that point to his goodness and his loving pursuit of us. In this part-two episode we have licensed professionals, Ron Mahn and Scott Conrad, joining the Roundtable with Pastors Daniel Rankin and Matt Cartwright.

It’s time to have THE Talk
We live in an over-sexualized culture and our kids will become inundated with sexual content and conversations (if they aren’t already!). In this episode, we have licensed professionals, Ron Mahn and Scott Conrad, joining the Roundtable to help us have The Sex Talk.

As for Me and My House...
Joshua 24:15 is a familiar passage, “... as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
How do we go about doing that? How does dad make sure that a house is serving the Lord? Aren’t we all too busy? In this episode, we discuss the promise to do the best we can to make sure that everything that takes place inside the home honors God. It is also a prayer that the children raised there will have an example set by dad.

Challenge Accepted
Being a dad is awesome but becoming a dad–facing those first few challenges–is a whole other story! In this episode, we have a group of dads talking about the initial challenges, mistakes, (and some victories!) we’ve all made in those first few months and years of becoming a dad. It’s not always smooth sailing but dad, be encouraged as you strive to bring them up tenderly, with lovingkindness, in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

Big God and Little Kids
George B. Shaw said “the biggest mistake in communication is assuming it has taken place.” Shaw was most likely not referring to conversations about faith, but that quote really drives home the point of today’s discussion: It would be a mistake to assume our kids understand our faith, or even have a faith of their own that they can articulate. As dad’s striving to raise kids in the discipline and instruction of the Lord, where do we start? What is the appropriate age to have faith conversations with our kids?
In this episode, we are joined by some pastors at Crossings who are going to help us better understand how and when to have those significant conversations about a big God to our little kids.

Balanced and Rotated
Paul instructs the Thessalonians to avoid being busy for busyness sake, and adding things to your plate with hurry and anxiety is not a blessed life. But instead, the quiet life sounds pretty ordinary. True life is when we display the image of God in all we do (including raising our kids!) and aspire to rest in him. The world—and probably our work relationships—would think that sounds crazy! In this episode, we look at the work/life balance and how dad's prioritize the business of life.
