Dad, Who Are You? is about getting to know the man behind the title of “Dad.”
Every father has a story that started long before having kids. Through honest conversations with everyday dads, we’ll explore childhood, relationships, careers, struggles, victories, fatherhood, and everything in between.
No celebrities. No experts. Just real dads sharing what shaped them, what they’ve learned, and what they’re still figuring out.
No dad has it all figured out, but every dad has a story worth telling.
So, Dad… who are you?

Dad, Who Are You? Episode 4 - with Dr. Efrain Alvarado
In this episode, we sit down with my father-in-law: The longest-practicing chiropractor in Yorba Linda, California. Might be a lie, but just about 40 years seems worthy of it.
We talk about what it was like growing up in a military family, how he met Terry, some of the challenges they faced being in an interracial relationship, and what has kept their marriage going for 50 YEARS. We also get into the obstacles he faced becoming a first-time dad and some of the lessons he’s picked up along the way.
There’s only so much life you can fit into 60–90 minutes, but this was such a great conversation and one I’m really glad we got to have.
And if you’re wondering why you don’t hear Alex quite as much in this one… she was a little busy crying.
Another great dad story. Another reminder that everybody’s road to fatherhood looks a little different.
Hope you all enjoy this one!

Dad, Who Are You? Episode 3 with Charbel aka my Dad.
Sadly, the audio on this one got all sorts of messed up because of the connection between my microphones and computer... and of course it had to happen on one of the episodes that meant the most to me.
In this episode, I sit down with my dad and hear more about how he made his way to the U.S., how he met my mom, and what it was like becoming a stepdad to a 10-year-old kid… me.
There were a lot of stories I’d never heard, plenty of surprises for my mom, and maybe even a few things after 27 years together that she’s hearing for the first time.
I’m genuinely bummed the audio didn’t capture this conversation the way I wanted it to, because there were a lot of tears, a lot of laughs, and a whole lot of wisdom in this one.
But that’s life. Sometimes you just gotta wing it.
Hope you all enjoy the pieces we were able to save!

Dad, Who Are You? Episode 2 with Fellow Girl Dad, Randy!
In this episode, I sit down with a great friend, husband, hooper, and fellow girl dad, Randy.
We talk about his journey growing up with and without a father present all the time, meeting the love of his life, and eventually welcoming his beautiful baby girl into the world. We also get into some of the very real mental battles that come with being a dad, how he navigates those struggles, and what he and his wife do to keep their relationship strong while figuring out this whole parenting thing together.
A lot of laughs, some real conversation, and of course… a perfectly timed surprise interruption that gives you a pretty accurate look at what dad life is really like 😂
Hope you all enjoy this week’s Dad Chat! 🎙️

Dad, Who Are You? First episode recap minisode with Alex
Firstly, Myla wanted to be part of the podcast, so she is now our funny intro. She has a hard time saying "WHO"... even though she knows the sound an owl makes. We thought it was funny, so we left it.
Part of my vision for Dad, Who Are You? has always been to tell more than one side of the story. In these minisodes, Alex takes the mic and sits down with the spouses, partners, family members, and loved ones of the dads we interview.
It’s a chance to hear their perspective, share some words of affirmation, reflect on things they may have learned from the episode, and maybe even say a few things that don’t always get said out loud.
My hope is that these conversations add another layer to each dad’s story and create moments that other couples, parents, and families can relate to. Maybe something shared here helps someone understand their person a little better, start a conversation, or simply feel a little less alone while navigating life, relationships, and parenthood.

Dad, Who Are You? Episode 1! An intro to the show and the host, Mario.
This episode is our rough draft and our final version of our first go at this whole podcast thing. And what better place to start than with me, the host. The best part is that I am interviewed by my emotional support baddie and wife, Alex.
It’s tough to fit a lifetime into an hour, but we did our best. In this first episode, we talk about what Dad, Who Are You? is all about, how we hope these conversations will flow, and some of the experiences that shaped me into the man and dad I am today.
More than anything, this podcast is about the mental and emotional side of the everyday dad. The things that shaped us, the things we carry with us, and the things we may have never talked about before.
This one isn’t perfect, and that’s kind of the point. It’s real, it’s vulnerable, and it’s the beginning.
I hope you enjoy the stories, find something you can relate to, and maybe even learn a little more about the dads in your own life.
