Daily Catena is a homily on the Gospel from the daily Mass readings based on the writings of the Church Fathers, taken from the Catena Aurea of St. Thomas Aquinas.
Pentecost Sunday, Mass during the Day, Option 2 (https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/060522-day.cfm)
John 14:15-16, 23b-26
Jesus said to his disciples:
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
And I will ask the Father,
and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always.
“Whoever loves me will keep my word,
and my Father will love him,
and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him.
Those who do not love me do not keep my words;
yet the word you hear is not mine
but that of the Father who sent me.
“I have told you this while I am with you.
The Advocate, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name,
will teach you everything
and remind you of all that I told you.”

The Gospel of Christmas Day | Part 7
Throughout the Octave of Christmas, we will look at the parts of the Gospel for Christmas Day in sequence. Today’s exposition will focus on the words:
John testified to him and cried out, saying,
“This was he of whom I said,
‘The one who is coming after me ranks ahead of me
because he existed before me.’”
From his fullness we have all received,
grace in place of grace,
because while the law was given through Moses,
grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
