S5 E15 The World Before History – Did Humanity Rise and Fall Before Recorded Time?
For as long as we've studied history, we've believed civilization began around 5,000 years ago with the rise of Mesopotamia, Egypt and the first written records.
But what if history didn't begin there?
What if humanity's story stretches back far further than we realise? What if entire civilizations rose, flourished and disappeared long before anyone thought to write them down? And if they did... what evidence would they have left behind?
In this thought-provoking episode of The Dark History Podcast, Rob steps away from conventional history to explore one of the most fascinating and controversial questions ever asked.
Could there have been a forgotten world before recorded history?
Together we'll examine some of archaeology's greatest mysteries, including the astonishing ancient site of Göbekli Tepe, global flood legends that appear across countless cultures, the extraordinary lifespans recorded in the Book of Genesis, and the possibility that myths may preserve distant memories of catastrophes that reshaped the human story.
We'll also explore the end of the last Ice Age, rising sea levels that swallowed entire coastlines, and ask whether much of humanity's earliest history could now lie hidden beneath the oceans.
This episode isn't about proving that a lost super-civilization once existed.
It's about asking questions.
Where does accepted history end and speculation begin? How much of our past has simply been lost to time? And if our own civilization disappeared tomorrow, what traces would remain ten thousand years from now?
Whether you're fascinated by archaeology, ancient civilizations, mythology, biblical history, Graham Hancock's theories, or simply enjoy questioning what we think we know, this episode invites you to examine the evidence, challenge assumptions, and make up your own mind.
Sometimes the darkest mysteries aren't hidden in forgotten crimes...
They're buried beneath our feet.
