Nights out on the town are great, but when you're a busy married couple with two kids sometimes it's more relaxing to make cocktails at home and watch a movie on your favorite streaming service. David and Jessica started Date Night In as an entertaining way to review movies available on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and Disney Plus while suggesting a cocktail pairing to go along with the viewing.
Ohhhhhhhh no there goes Tokyo! Join Dave and Jess as they watch Godzilla Minus One, available on Netflix. This kaiju flick is the first Godzilla movie to win an Academy Award - do Dave and Jess agree with the Academy, or should this film be regarded with the same disdain reserved for Roland Emmerich's failed adaptation.
The couple discuss the superiority of subtitled vs dubbed versions of foreign films, along with a review of American versus Japanese versions of Godzilla (including that odious Roland Emmerich version from 1998), and the kid-friendly cartoon.
Jess receives a revelation when she realizes how the game Minesweeper was named after a certain scene in this movie, and Dave laments how similar this movie is to a certain unproduced screenplay he wrote.

Poor Things (2023)
Dave and Jess are back after an unexpected hiatus! In this episode the couple finally views Poor Things (2023), which is available on Hulu, and which they pair with a Tomato Martini. They've been looking forward to this movie for some time - does it meet expectations? Or is this surrealistic bawdy comedy too much of a good thing?
Find out why Jess calls Mark Ruffalo's character a "rake" and a "cad", while Dave proclaims a love for the actor dating back to his debut film. The hometown girl Emma Stone is discussed at length, along with a discussion of her given name, and the couple loses count of how many flaccid penises are on display in this unexpectedly-explicit film.

Dune (2021)
In this episode Dave & Lady Jessica watch Dune on Hulu, which they pair with the Spice Trade cocktail created by the Educated Barfly. Is this epic sci-fi fantasy film worth checking out on the small screen, or is its 2.5 hour runtime equivalent to placing your hand in the agony box?
While discussing their reaction to the movie, the couple also discuss the classic novel that inspired the movie, and Lady Jessica provides her comparison of Trader Joe’s select bags to the spice on Arrakis. Dave & Jess dive into the numerous languages used in the film, and ponder who exactly one disembarks a sandworm after riding one. Other topics of discussion include whether the movie works on its own despite it being a part 1, and how it stacks up against its sequel.
