A tribute to its community of house music DJs, producers, promoters, club owners, everyone involved, and then all the party people/ the dancers (including those of us who can't dance but love to ;)This is a tribute to the house I got into, grew into, grew up in, and fell in love with each time we heard these tracks. A huge hi-five, hug and thank you to all the singers, producers, and DJs that made and played these tracks!!'Classic House' is a shifting definition... just depends on when you got into house music and when those first 5 to 6 formative years were for you. For us, tracks made in 1985-1996 are considered 'classic' but we started partying in 1990, and from 1990 to 1996 we were privileged to have heard and danced to the earlier tracks.For "Electric City", I wanted to go for the 'what old is new again' intent, so it's not entirely a classic house mix because it contains some instrumental tracks that were created past '96 and I included covers and remixes of classics that had the same feel, had great sound quality and didn't care when those were actually produced.As always, we hope you enjoy this mix and that it gives you that house feeling from head to toe. Obsessive is putting it mildly how I feel about house music. LMAO.Last week, I decided to book 5hrs @ctrlroom (my pals, Hubert and Ian's DJ studio - https://www.youtube.com/@CtrlroomCa/videos in the 'Junction' area in Toronto) and invited a bunch of friends old and new to DJ and dance together on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Turning 49 last Sunday would've been crap if I was home alone.What a party we had. It was wonderful and beyond fun. It made me so happy to see so many old friends and met a few new ones. We danced, drank, talked, hugged, and laughed. Everything house music is about.Good friends and good music, what more can I ask? I'm very thankful. I've been the happiest in a very long time.It's been the most challenging last 15mths, but moments like this make all the shitty times worth it.________________Whatever you're going through. Hang on. Stay positive. This too will pass. Go to your happy place. Displace the negative in your mind. Don't fight it. Just replace it.Music, friends, writing, reading, long walks with your doggie, whatever you do that makes you calm and happy. Go do it. Thank you. https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/dattrax____________________Thought that I'd share my super nerdy process for prepping tracks for a DJ gig or a new house mix.____________________After I first buy and download a new batch of house tracks from Traxsource or Bandcamp.I usuallv listen to them separatelv for a week or two. Try to get to know and understand them.As I listen to them over and over again, I imagine different combinations with my older house tracks that I have.Incorporating them into my collection.____________________If I'm making a new mix, then I'll start organizing them and adding a bunch of tracks that I'd want to mix with the new ones.If I'm prepping for an upcoming DJ gig, then I'll take the most danceable tracks and put them into one large folder.____________________Usuallv takes me 4 to 8 hrs to choose and organize for each gig or new mIx.It's a therapeutic ritual and a lot of fun.It sounds boring, but it's not because I'm imagining the different directions that I can take the night or a mix.How do I judge how many total house tracks do I need for my gig?If my set is 3hrs, then 1 know that the avg speed for me is changing a track every three minutes.Other DJs like to play their tracks for 6-7mins each. Everyone has different preferences.So I know that I' probably end up playing 60 tracks give or take,within three hours.Then there's the issue of choice.Not too much or I won't have an overall feel or direction.That's why you see young laptop DJs bring a few thousand tracks and then are all over the place.Then I decide what I feel ike sharing. Track names will pop into my mind.So I go through the folder and move the tracks that I really love into a 'Priority' folderThen I go into a dozen rabbit holes.First, I collect evervthing into one folder.Then I make a priority folder and try to eliminate a lotThen I'll put them into folders according to energy levels.Mellow Vocal.Mellow Bit Harder VocalMedium Mellow VocalMedium DubbyMedium InstrumentalMedium level energy have the most ofIfI know thati won't be going harder, then nothing more to organize.Too little choice and I'm going to annoyed instead of having fun.So I give myself 5 to 8 choices per 60 tracks.So let's say the total is 350.You know how many tracks and how many energy levels you want to take them on.Interact with the dancers and try to surprise them with your combination choices.____________________All the best to you and your loved ones.From your friendly neighbourhood Chinaman who LOVES house and LUVS you.May God Bless You and All Who You Love Abundantly 💜💜💜💜💜💜♥️AMEN = So be it. It's the simple things in life that brings moments of joy and happiness.Thinking about all the good that's happened and all the wonderful people that I have crossed paths with.Some built a little friendship or at least, shared kindred times. Sure negative shit happens all the time and to all of us. Negative people aren't avoidable. Hold on to the good. Replace, displace or discard the bad. Control what you can directly and the rest... let it be and go. Nothing you can do about it. ___________________Life is fascinating. The cycle of struggle and overcoming. Sometimes, I'm thankful for my sleep challenges because I have more time to sort things out. ___________________I write a lot for work and also writing helps me sort out my thinking and feelings + collecting and organizing ideas. Reading or learning helps displace or temporarily replace negative thoughts. You can't focus on two separate things, so it works. ___________________I love house music and I work out my emotions through hunting for tracks, listening, prepping mixes or gigs, mixing or dancing to it. Are you being your own Best Cheerleader?I decided at 49yrs old to stop any negative thoughts or self-talk. Recognise it. Stop it. Then displace it with house music or comedy. I didn't even try to fight it. I had low confidence in my will power. LMAO.I hope that all is well in your neck of the words. Thank you for taking a listen to our brand of house music. [We've loved this special art form since we were 14-15yrs old and now almost 52. We've gone past the stage where people might ask, 'Aren't you too old for...' by decades. LMAO].There are dozens of house DJs that I listen to, so I know that choice is abundant, so I appreciate it when someone would take time from their lives to check out a mix. It makes me happy thinking about people smiling and bopping their heads while driving or walking their doggies or working out or cleaning their homes to our mixes or any other activity.What was really cool the last few years were three separate friends blasting one of my house mixes in their cars and they were in some warm tropical paradise, Jaimaica, South America or Mexico and took short 1min videos and sent them to me. A huge hi-five, hug and thank you to all the singers, producers, and DJs that made and played these tracks!!'Classic House' is a shifting definition... just depends on when you got into house music and when those first 5 to 6 formative years were for you. For us, tracks made in 1985-1996 are considered 'classic' but we started partying in 1990, and from 1990 to 1996 we were privileged to have heard and danced to the earlier tracks.For "Electric City", I wanted to go for the 'what old is new again' intent, so it's not entirely a classic house mix because it contains some instrumental tracks that were created past '96 and I included covers and remixes of classics that had the same feel, had great sound quality and didn't care when those were actually produced.For the regular classics, the sound quality was paramount also but had to make exceptions for "Move" and "Music Take Me Up" because they are such wicked tracks (which were my poor attempts at transferring my vinyl to digital). I'm sorry but on "Emotions Electric" was a CD version I bought at Sam The Record Man (sadly not in biz anymore)... back to my apology, I cranked the bass too much so...Over 5yrs ago, I wasted almost two months in the cracks of time between work and family recording a crate and a half (150 records) into my computer. Realised afterward that because I had a crappy sound card the digitized tracks were flat sounding).After that Jim and I just started buying classics on Beatport, Traxsource, Itunes, and Defected, and probably 90% of the time the sound quality was excellent.Got a few classic tracks from friends like Eric Ling, Gene King, Devon Wills, and Tyrone Solomon. Then Roberto Pinto told me about Discogs and all my classic house vinyl dreams are gonna come true. We keep saying but bear repeating: "This is the best time for house music. Period!"As always, we hope you enjoy this mix and that it gives you that house feeling from head to toe. Time is relentless isn't it?I wish pain wasn't necessary to create beautiful art, but it seems to be the key ingredient.House music has been an outlet for my negative emotions since I was 14. Whenever I do anything related to house, hunting for tracks that move me, dancing, listening or mixing house. Even talking with friends about house.__________________Ever have a terrible year full of things happening to you over and over that were negative? That were almost all the result of your poor choices? Have you ever sat down and taken inventory on the things you've gone through? I'm already writing a novel here, but/however, just want to share one observation. Hopefully this good fortune cookie can help you with a better 2026. __________________Perspective is Everything. We control the direction of the movement of our subconscious, or to put it in another way, it’s our reaction to any given person or circumstance that is important, not the person or circumstance itself. If we view a situation as negative or positive, then our mind will obey that direction we give it and find ways to prove us right. __________________It’s crazy that we can be in a great mood and then one piece of news makes us angry or extremely negative, or the opposite where we’re in a terrible mood, then one thing happens and we’re super happy. Why is that? What changed? The news or circumstance that was introduced?    dattrax: Welcome my Fellow house music Friends.Have you had one of those rare days where 6-7 things go wrong and you're on your knees praying because you're so broken?I had one of those days last December. From 10am till past midnight. EVERYTHING went wrong. One after another. LMAO.If I described that day, then no one would believe it. Plus, I'd sound like I'm whining, which is not what I want to do. I only visit the past to gather insights, NOT to wallow in my negativity. We're NOT victims.We all go through negative stuff. Probably not as bad as other people, even though we don't want to compare. (Comparison is the basis of discouragement because we compare our valleys to someone's hilltops).All we can control is our reaction to the circumstances as they occur.As bad as any day, it'll have to end soon. Hold on to that.House music heals and restores. This is a 2nd attempt for this batch of beautiful vocal house tracks that I wanted to include in this mix of healing, and it's one of my most personal mixes.We don't value beauty and art without going through the dark times.I hope and pray that you get on top of your circumstances.
