   9: Zoomed While in Quarantine

It’s been a little while, but the Daughters finally reconnected via Zoom and recorded another episode of the podcast! We discuss what we’ve been up to during this strange time, talk about the joys and struggles of social isolation, and share the ways we’ve been staying close to God. We look at 1 Peter 5:8-10, in which St. Peter exhorts his readers to remain vigilant and steadfast amidst suffering, knowing that our brothers and sisters around the world are undergoing the same trials. Whatever your experience has been like, you are not alone. These moments of struggle and solitude are the seeds of sainthood. You are in our prayers; please keep us in yours! Questions to ponder: What temptation are you facing during this time of pandemic and isolation? How can you resist it? "For us [the sacraments] are the prescribed means to grace, and we cannot receive them eagerly enough. But God is not bound to them. At the moment when some external force were to cut us off from receiving the sacraments, he could compensate us, superabundantly, in some other way; and he will do so all the more certainly and generously the more faithfully we have adhered to the sacraments previously." -St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross Read 1 Peter 5:8-10: http://www.usccb.org/bible/1peter/5:8 (http://www.usccb.org/bible/1peter/5:8) Check out the movie A Hidden Life: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5827916/ (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5827916/)

8: Discerning the Voice of God

Sometimes it’s difficult to discern what is from God and what is from ourselves, the world, or the Devil. Today we talk about identifying God’s voice, calling out the lies the Devil feeds us, practical ways to combat spiritual attack, and how anxiety disorders play into the discernment of spirits. We are not spiritual directors but we wanted to share some of our personal experiences with you, and we encourage you to find a spiritual director who can help guide you more intimately in the discernment of spirits! Questions to ponder: Where are you hearing voices of fear, anxiety, doubt, or insecurity? What does God sound like when he speaks to you? Is there an area of your life in which you are afraid to ask God to speak into? 7: The World Is Not Your Home

St. Thérèse of Lisieux said, “The world is thy ship, not thy home.” Today we have a conversation about what it means to be in the world but not of it, how true joy comes from serving others, and how living with heaven in mind can help us resist the cultural narrative that says we should be selfish and pursue comfort above all. This episode is particularly timely as we prepare to enter the penitential season of Lent! Questions to ponder: What is one way God might be calling you to reject the world? 6: God Forgives

No matter who you are or what you’ve done, God is eagerly waiting to pour out his mercy upon you. Today we talk about how sinning is not just breaking an arbitrary rule, but rather, actively pulling ourselves away from the loving embrace of our Father. We also discuss how it can sometimes be difficult to accept God’s forgiveness, why Confession is so awesome, and how our relationships influence the ways we perceive mercy. Challenge: go receive God’s mercy in the sacrament of Reconciliation this week! Shout out to Three Dogs North (http://threedogsnorth.com/), another awesome podcast “My Heart overflows with great mercy for souls, and especially for poor sinners. If only they could understand that I am the best of Fathers to them and that it is for them that the Blood and Water flowed from My Heart as from a fount overflowing with mercy. For them I dwell in the tabernacle as King of Mercy. I desire to bestow My graces upon souls, but they do not want to accept them. You, at least, come to Me as often as possible and take these graces they do not want to accept. In this way you will console My Heart..." (Saint Faustina's Diary, 367). BONUS: Spice on an Island

Occasionally we like to break from our regularly scheduled programming to ponder important questions like this: if you were dropped off on a deserted island and could only bring one spice or herb with you, what would you choose? (This one is Kelsey C.’s favorite question to ask new people she meets). Listen in for some hot takes on cilantro and lots of mashed potato talk! Question to ponder: if you were dropped off on a deserted island and could only bring one spice or herb with you, what would you choose? Challenge: Let us know what spice or herb you would choose, and then ask everyone you know to answer the question! Kelsey S.'s guac recipe: 6 avocados 1 white onion 1-2 jalapeños (or more if you like it spicy) 3 tomatoes Several limes (to taste- depends on how limey you like it) Scoop out and mash avocado (keep the pits ) Core and dice tomatoes, throw them in the avocado mix Chop onions and add to the mix - you can cut them finely or leave them chunky Cut open jalapeños and scoop the seeds out, finely dice, and add to mixture WASH YOUR HANDS AND DON'T TOUCH YOUR EYES OR LIPS (TRUST ME. LEARNED FROM EXPERIENCE). Add lime juice to taste depending on how limey you want it - I usually use several because limey guac is where it’s at Add salt to taste (pink Himalayan salt is highly recommended) Throw the avocado pits back in to keep it FRESH Shout out to the Abiding Together podcast (https://www.abidingtogetherpodcast.com/)! 5: God Doesn't Abandon

Today we talk about our tendency to set up safeguards in our lives out of fear that God will abandon us. We reflect on Matthew 6:26-34, in which Jesus reminds his followers that they have no need to worry about anything because their heavenly Father provides for all their needs, and we discuss how we’ve experienced this provision in our own lives, especially during times of darkness and struggle. Questions to ponder: What are some of the things you cling to instead of God? What are the safeguards you’re setting up out of fear that God won’t show up? How can you practically take steps to be more dependent on God? 4: He is a Personal God

In the Gospel of John, Jesus weeps over the death of his friend Lazarus. Today we talk about how God doesn’t just love us from afar but personally takes on our joys and sufferings, entering into the depths with us. We discuss the fact that God desires a unique and personal relationship with each of his children, the temptation to compare our relationship with the Lord to other people’s relationships with him, and the ways we each experience God speaking to us. Questions to ponder: How does God love you uniquely? Where is God calling you into deeper personal relationship with him? Challenge: Take time before bed to pinpoint the ways you saw God loving you in little ways throughout your day. 3: God Gives Rest

In the Parable of the Shepherds from Ezekiel 34, the Lord says “I myself will pasture my sheep; I myself will give them rest.” Today we talk about all things rest—what it looks like to practically rest with God, how to be present to the pastures God has led us to, and the things that make us restless. Questions to ponder: What is one thing you may need to remove from your life? What about one thing you might need to add? 2: He Died For You

Today the ladies talk about the fact that God died for each one of us specifically and individually, and ponder why it’s sometimes so dang hard to let that change the way we live. They also discuss the importance of meditating on both the Passion and the Resurrection, and choosing God in the little things. Question to ponder: do you live each day as though someone died to save your life? Two challenges for the week: Listen to Mother Teresa's I Thirst (https://avemariaradio.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Jesus-I-Thirst.pdf) meditation in front of a Crucifix Think about how you can live both in the Passion and the Resurrection Check out the lyrics to “Above All (https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/michaelwsmith/aboveall.html)” Watch the last scene (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9iA0UK1Nvo) of The Passion of the Christ Visit www.grexly.com (http://www.grexly.com) [](www.grexly.com)to (http://www.grexly.com)to) listen to more Daughters episodes and discover other great podcasts! 1: God Responds to His Daughters

In the first ever episode of Daughters, the ladies sit down to discuss the story of the hemorrhaging woman and how it reveals God’s radically personal love for his children. They discuss what it means to be a daughter of God, how their fathers have influenced their understanding of themselves, how it’s possible to be beloved and sinful at the same time, and the challenges of accepting their daughtership. Questions to ponder: • What is preventing you from living out your identity as a daughter? • Take the time to reflect on your relationship with your parents. How has that shaped your relationship with God the Father? • What is the affliction you need your heavenly Father to heal? • Do you believe your faith has saved you? Read the story of the hemorrhaging woman: Mark 5:33-34, Matthew 9:20-22, Luke 8:42-48 Listen to “Rescue” by Lauren Daigle here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYR0xP1j4PY)
